[livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru and I were driving back from dropping the Puppy off at his ship, Christmas music tinkling in the stereo. We steered around clouds of fog that made the city both strange and mysterious. Ordinary streetlights glowed and shopwindows looked festive and playful. He grinned at me relaxing in the seat next to him, taking in the sights with an easy cheer I haven't felt in months.

"I feel like I have my girlfriend back."

He does, too.

I've been asked for Stargate recs as I find good stories:

Past Imperfect by [livejournal.com profile] widget285
Wonderful description of the nature of memory, as Daniel Jackson's memories slowly return after he's 'descended', transforming his relationship with Jack. Introspective and gentle.

Pavlov by Kalimyre
Now this aliens made them do it story I believe. Hot sex, believable and original alien scenario. Ending's a bit odd, but I really enjoyed it.

The Steak Series by Keiko Kirin
The most believable and convincing Jack/Daniel story out there. This is my all time, hands down favourite. Powerful, sensual, hyper-masculine, and well as peaceful. The awkward way they get together is hilarious, and [livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru found it extremely frustrating, "oh yeah, this is so like them." Alien adventures that vary from the eerie to the absurd.

Now. If only my Jack/Daniel stories would cooperate. They've all grown a little stale since I've had to put them on hold.

What do you mean when you say "The Puppy". Is it a nickname for a family memeber, is it actually a dog, or are you speaking about a submissive you own (or something like that)? Just curious. :)

Ha! Sorry, The Puppy is a friend of ours. He's super energetic and cheerful, enthusiastic about life. One day, I was standing behind a door when he came bounding in, nearly getting me in the nose.

I said, "Gotta be careful with him around. He's like a puppy!"

Everyone laughed, and the nickname stuck. ;) He's one of my all-time favourite people, spiritual, positive and happy.

I think I'm the only person in the world who was less than impressed by The Steak Series. ::sighs:: I do love "The Road Between the Walls" though, very much so.

Have you read Quercus's fics? (http://slashcity.org/quercus/). Lovely, gentle fics, some barely slash but their friendship is really marvelous. "Only Love Survives" is just about my favorite fic of all time. Along with "The Grave Yields Back Her Robberies". A long, fascinating tale. IMHO, at least. *g*

I also love Anais's fics (http://www.versaphile.com/anais/index2.asp). "Ghost in the Machine" is a favorite, along with "Little Things", which always makes me feel like I shouldn't even bother to try stringing two words together anymore because it's so god damn brilliant and I'm such a hack.

Quercus is brilliant, but the titles are so depressing that I can't bring myself to read them most of the time. When I'm feeling low, it's hard to open a fic entitled "Crushed Under The Wheel Of Bitter Despair," especially since Quercus has crappy summaries and no info. I'm saving most of those for when I run out of "known quantity" fics.

I love Anais stories, and I really need to rec them (oh dear, I'll just have to re-read them first...). My favorite of hers is a simple one: Kawoosh!

Then there's this writer, I'm not sure if you've heard of her, but she's written these wonderful, playful sexy and intuitive fics. A couple favorites of mine are If A Tree Falls (http://www.area52hkh.net/asg/grrrl/treefalls.php) and The Space Within (http://www.area52hkh.net/asg/grrrl/spacewithin.php), but really I'd recommend anything by her. :D

Oh, you. ::blushes:: You're very sweet. And kind. And sweet. Thank you.

You are so right about Quercus's titles! But they're so beautiful. The ones I mentioned, plus "What Rough Beast" aren't depressing at all. They're very interesting, and lovely in a non-smutty kind of way.

And..mmmm.. "Kawoosh" is damn good, too.
