Sex, Drugs and Death Eater Rock
May. 17th, 2003 02:57 pmSo at long last, after much soul-searching, banging my head on the keyboard, decorating
tboy's office and my last temp assignment... two Beta's dead and one gasping, a story that has passed through six people... the cursed fic is done. I spent two weeks doing inserts to balance the story. One Beta loved them, as it was done to resolve an issue with the story. Then she told me 'bear in mind I don't like rambling PWPs'. Oh. We both agreed we had been working on this story until we were blind. We needed a fresh point of view. Lovely, lovely
switchknife volunteered. And says: "Leave it alone! Let it breathe! No inserts. They don't add to the plot and are sometimes jarring."
Sigh. Time to call it done. I will post both versions on my website, but the version of 'Sex, Drugs and Death Eater Rock' (part two of the 'Beg Me For It' story arc) without inserts goes up on the Boozefest. Now.
Okay. I'm off to write "SNAFU - Situation Normal: All Fucked Up," part three of my Ron/Draco 'Beg Me For It' series. And to write Hagrid/Buckbeak, to be Blamed on
gmth. Urgh.
Edit: Whoops. Typo on the Boozefest address. But it's just been submitted. Unless
tboy moves at the speed of light, it's probably not up yet. (So in the meantime read 'Mai Tai of Doom' and 'Man, Being Reasonable.' Oh, and 'Drunken Domesticity.' 'Pale Green' is good, too. 'Oral Sex.')

Guilty joy...
Date: 2003-05-17 05:21 pm (UTC)Do tell me when it has a fixed home on the web, along with the prequel, so I can rec it. *grin* The characterizations are absolutely precious, and the atmosphere of dysfunctional domesticity (or is it functional? well, when it comes to the sex anyway) that you conjure is just gorgeously addictive. The love that has managed to take root between our boys, so meticulously unspoken of, is both painfully and beautifully obvious. As usual, you create images that haunt the mind. My favorites?
- Draco dancing, shirtless and drunk. My God, I prefer women, but...
- Draco in the... er... lingerie.
- Ron gawping at himself in the mirror, prone on the couch with his skirt rucked up around his thighs.
- Strawberries in the bathtub.
- Percy's face when he walks in on Draco and Ron... *chokes on laughter*
- Ron and Draco, giggling behind that pillar, both in dresses...
Oh God! I don't think I'll ever live those down... How do you come up with these jewels!?! :D :D
I think they could have killed Lucius already, by having him walk in on them instead of Percy... Poor Daddy Malfoy, seeing his son in drag, AND eating out of the hand of a Weasley!! *grin*
Hmmm... Can't wait for SNAFU. *leers*
Re: Guilty joy...
Date: 2003-05-17 10:32 pm (UTC)This series is unusual.
Part one, 'Beg Me For It,' is a dark, non-con (sort of) story, first person told from Ron's POV. Hmmm. Right up your alley, actually. It takes you into strange territory, the Arena, Ron's betrayal of his own principles. Hits some deep questions.
Then part two, 'Sex, Drugs and Death Eater Rock' is almost the opposite. It's a light, sensual and giggly romp. It's absurd, even as their surrounding circumstances aren't. When the fic is released as a complete series, this chapter may need to inserts to even feel like it belongs to this series.
Part three (which I'm struggling with as we speak) is an action/adventure thriller. I don't know if it's going to be first person (probably not), but it's going to switch back and forth between Ron and Draco. It's a battle, and it's called 'SNAFU' for good reason.
Part four, 'Stand in the Ruins' is already written; it's back to Ron's first person POV. It's reflective, an aftermath story, and puts your heart in your throat at least once.
Part five, 'Scarred' is also already written. Despite it's title is probably the most unabashedly romantic (though these two are never syrupy) story I've written. It tells where the story goes from here.
Re: Guilty joy...
Date: 2003-05-17 11:08 pm (UTC)BMFI was dark, indeed, and... er... 'up my alley' as you so... um... wonderfully put it. (Sorry--am dosed up on so much kink, after both SDDADER and the Hagrid/Buckbeak piece that I'm fucking thinking in Freudian symbolism.)
However, everyone needs the glittering, shameless humor of domestic bliss/sex/safety that you so lovingly put together here. Life's both ridiculous and serious, no? A tragicomedy... Which is why I still think the final 'construction' would be better off WITHOUT the inserts. All you need is a brief 'Author's Note' at the top, declaring the change in tone. I know I'm being a pain, but I really do think the inserts detracted from the tone of the story. From its delirious and happily drunken pace. BMFI is all the background the reader needs.
You know that I don't go for humor that is completely devoid of some depth, some grounding humanity... And it is there, in SDADER. It's unspoken--and it's largely in retrospect, yes, but it's there. Once one knows the events of BMFI, there's this constant shadow to the otherwise sweet intimacy between these two--and it surfaces twice in SDADER (during the post-bathtub fight, and when Ron mentions the Crabbe|Goyle virginity thing). Not only this, but there is a certain fierce protectiveness (also unspoken) with which Ron views Draco, and this is very serious indeed, and underlies the otherwise frivolous things they do together. The humor's made more... I don't know... potent?... because of the not-so-humorous past. All those comments Ron makes in his mind--about Draco being tiny, being fragile, being fierce--and how he holds Draco tighter for that brief moment in the dance--all these things, you know? Make SDADER lovely to me. And prove that the inserts aren't needed, after all...
*blushes* I think I've proved just how much of a romantic sap I am, despite all my vociferous cynical musings at the best of times. Gawd. *blushes harder* But what can I say? This was sweet laughter that was grounded in something deeper, something beautiful, and that's what I like.
So... I'm off now. Before you think I need to be hospitalized for being obsessive, or something...
The fact that you've already written the sequels of the sequel is simply criminal. *squirms* Finish SNAFU, please!!!

Okay. I'll leave it alone. It did exactly what I wanted it to do in that case.
Time to work on 'SNAFU.'

Hmmm. Ron/Draco withdrawal is serious...
Date: 2003-05-17 07:47 pm (UTC)I'll tell you what, since this is clearly an emergency (one I understand well), I'll email it to you. The boozefest understands such things as midnight booty-calls, fic withdrawal, and 'just twenty more drinks, thanks'.
What's your email address?

Re: Hmmm. Ron/Draco withdrawal is serious...
Date: 2003-05-17 09:28 pm (UTC)No, I don't move at the speed of light, in fact, I just got out of bed, after hitting the sheets at 4am. I have a housefull of cleaning ahead of me, and laundry for the week which is quite urgent, seeing as nothing is drying in this constant wet weather (the wettest in Sydney since I was born, and I'm 39), plus I need to shower and eat and feed the family...
*ahem* I shall be moving on archiving as fast as I can, baby. I know it's frustrating.

The Boozefest does indeed *g*. Private copies are not a worry.
