Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] r_becca.

Pick a few lines from a few of your works. Put the link to the work at the end. Don't give us any info other than the few lines of quotes from each fic and the link.

I hope these quotes aren't too long.

So I know what I'm talking about when I tell you that Lucius Malfoy is a joy to work for, even though I hate to think it, and refuse to say it. I do have some pride left. You heard right. I, Ron Weasley, work for Lucius and the Death Eaters. Sounds like a rock band, doesn't it? [link]

A Ravenclaw! Their complicated self-justifications were infamous and that one was a prime example! He was not a prostitute masquerading as Harry Potter for the benefit of the lecherous masses. Oh no. No, no, no. He was fulfilling a 'common emotional need.' A Gryffindor would be more honest, and embarrassed; a Slytherin wouldn't bother with the justifications; and a Hufflepuff wouldn't be so arrogantly superior about it. Common, indeed. Severus was insulted. [link]

"Don't blame the furniture," Severus said under his breath. "They can hardly allow anyone in who can't afford the proceedings, and you aren't on the guest list." [link]

He had a really long smooth waist and narrow chest that was nicely sculpted, not muscular, no, but still nice. They both stood there, so close, looking each other up and down. He really had very smooth skin, too, it looked as silky as the water, and Percy looked different, rather naked without the glasses. An odd hysterical thought flitted across his mind that he didn't look naked, he was naked, and if Percy were wearing his glasses right now, would he be any less naked, really? [link]

"I couldn't agree more, but you need ekeltric -- I mean electricity, for them. Augh. I've been around Ron too long. And don't drink beer for breakfast!" [link]

Draco tumbled into a darkened chimney and landed with a hard thump, and the orange heat flickered and disappeared around him. He held his suddenly hot, throbbing knee and rocked back and forth as he bit his lip. Fucking Weasley. As the pain faded in waves, he took a few breaths and looked around himself. The fireplace was dusty and loosely boarded up. He peered through a crack in the boards. He had no earthly clue where he was. [link]

"Why, Percy. You surprise me. Five points from Gryffindor for your vile language," Snape said with that insufferable arrogant sneer. "Though, truth be told, those were the first honest words I've ever heard from your mouth." [link]

"Well, pay attention! You're insulting a very sensitive soul." Fred gestured to his cock, which seemed to be perfectly happy and not insulted at all. [link]

The wipers beat, thub-thub, in time with his breath, and he couldn't see out the windows. They were fogged over. [link]

The next one through the door was very tall, and looked somewhat confused. He wore a tight, Muggle black turtleneck with elegant charcoal trousers. Both set off his red hair strikingly well, but it made no difference. He had to escape as quickly as possible before -- Too late. Those clear blue eyes had already picked him out at the bar, and widened. [link]

Ron explained. "You see, Neville, there's thing called a dick -- you'll grow one soon, and -- " [link]

Veddy nice. But to make this more fun for the reader, and more interactive, you should make it more like a quiz, and not provide the links right away. Put them on under a cut, or something. If you make it a game for the reader, that might also make it more effective pimpage, by drawing them in.

Since I can't resist quizes, I made it into one for myself, and guessed where the quote came from, before I rolled the cursor over the link. I correctly identified all but one quote (and the speaker or POV) before I checked. *does a little dance*

I'm impressed. You know, it never occurred to me that people will have read enough of my stories to make a quiz out of it. I figure for the most part people have just read their favourite pairings and skipped the rest. But then [livejournal.com profile] goseaward started guessing, too.

People just read their favorite pairings? No, for me it's usually the author, if the writer is skilled. If I like an author, I almost always work my way through all of his/her published works. I go through a lot of fiction, every month.

In fandom, I'll start reading someone if it's a pairing I like (which is why I read "Primer"). But if the person is good, I'll then read almost everything she has out there, as long as it's not a pairing that I really dislike. If you read a lot of work by the same person, you get a feel for her "voice" and how her characters tend to see the world: in the case of a mature, gifted writer, the characters' world views usually form a gestalt that is fascinating.

So, yes, I've read everything on your site.

Now what would be fun would be a quiz that had a (not easy to identify) passage from the work of a variety of hp authors, and you had to guess the writer, based on the voice. That would be an interesting challenge.

ETA: * snickers at herself* It's the author, and not the pairing? I sound like one of those fanfiction characters who say that they want to sleep with the person, not a particular sex. But in my case, it's true. I'm not looking for an example of a particular kink or pairing, but rather for a good story set in the universe that I like.

By the way, I lost my response to your comments on Primer (didn't save and then we did a shut down).

But basically, yeah, I did deliberately avoid any major mention of Voldemort. This is because I wanted (and want) Primer to last and still fit in canon through book six (if not seven). I also don't mention Snape being a spy. Primer was written just past GoF, so we didn't even know if he was going to be spy again or not. I made mention of his being in danger from Voldemort, but left it vague. Most people assume it's a reference to his spying, but, we didn't know then.

So far my strategy of avoiding her primary plot has worked: I've only had to change the references to Harry being pure-blood (slightly) and remove the mention of Sirius. Now Harry's characterisation is another matter -- he's definitely a GoF Harry. I imagined an arc where he grew up, but the Harry I wrote is more subtle and less angry then JKR's Harry in OotP. *shrugs* I worked with the cues I had.

I really feel that the downfall of Voldemort is JKR's story to tell, and anything that directly references her main storyline with be off-canon, - and worse, out-moded - by the time she finishes the series.

OK. That makes sense. And yes, your Harry is much more the GoF Harry than as we see him in OoTP. But that didn't worry me, although I noticed it as I read "Primer." I figured at the time that Harry might well be a bit calmer by 7th year. Many teenagers tend to peak in terms of irrational anger and angst around 15-16.

Would just like to add... I completely agree with you on the topic of reading all the works of a good author. And you know what they say about great minds...! Teehee. But yes, I have primary pairings that are enjoyed, but real, actually GOOD fiction is sometimes quite difficult to find.
