Hello from the school library.

My laptop cut out mid-sentence as I was editing The Walls Of Jericho, preparing for the next part. It's probably a dead/dying fan (thank you [livejournal.com profile] scarah2) and it's probably two hundred bucks more than I can afford.

[livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru thinks I should just fix the fan and nevermind the external drive (my hard drive is not backed up). Right. Hardware issues and I should just ignore the fact there are no back-ups. Suuuuure. He doesn't understand.

Suddenly I have money problems, where before things were tight, but comfortable.

Anyway, I'm not going to be around much. I'll be able to occasionally check email and poke around LJ from school, but no more than that. I've no idea how long this will take.

Aside to [livejournal.com profile] melpemone: run with what I've given you for right now.

Oh no.

I'm just scanning down my friends page, so I read that your computer died, but a laptop? That's simply dreadful. I love my laptop. I take it everywhere and hug it when I'm feeling lonely.

Loosing a laptop is hell. I'm so sorry! In cases like that it just sucks without end that these days nothing seems to get repared anymore, it's just "buy a new one". Can't you take out the hard disk, screw it inot a different computer and get to your data that way? Aren't there people who can recover data in cases like this?

**Goes off to hug her own laptop protectively**

You may not get this right away, but I'm sorry this came up. For what it's worth, I had a fan problem too once (sounded just like what you described) and it only cost $25 to fix (perhaps 4 years ago). The PC recovered and lasted several years after that. So, a fan fix alone might work.

Good luck, and I hope it doesn't cost $200, whatever it is.

What laptop is this? Like, who makes it, what model...depending on exactly what the symptoms are, I may be of some assistance. *waves Dell Tech Support flag* Fan replacements are kind of intimidating, but really not that bad; I've walked a couple of people through them. And there are almost always cheaper ways than getting parts from the company you bought it from originally.

Anyway, I certainly do feel your pain. Good luck!

We will miss you while you are incommunicado. Money troubles suck. Good luck and I hope it all works out.

sob...

Well, we'll miss you anyway, but jeez...no Jerico? I'm already jonsing here! Good luck. I hope it's easily (and cheaply) solved!
