This is getting long, so the previous part is here.
The Walls of Jericho - 26 (from part 1 here)
by Icarus
Jack staggered out of the tent, grumbling to himself. His body felt liquified and heavy, and what he really wanted was a beer. And a shower. And eggs for breakfast, with an hour or two to scan the Sunday funnies.
He decided off-world sex was not what it was cracked up to be, not when you had fourth watch at four am, and a long march to look forward to. Worse than mid-week sex – what was he thinking? He blew on his hands, sniffed, then fired up the camp stove to boil some water for coffee.
"Good morning, Colonel O'Neill," Teal'c said, moss crackling underfoot as he reported in from his watch.
Jack peered up at him, and decided against speaking. He nodded faintly.
"Did you have a good rest?" Teal'c asked in a mild voice.
Too mild. Jack gave him a laser-beam stare, instantly suspicious. He paused, glanced down in a poker face.
"No. No, I didn't," he said honestly. Then poured instant crystals into the hot water, and stirred, blowing on his coffee. Took a too-hot sip to stall for time and sighed, staring down at the cup. "Shitty night's sleep in fact." He stayed deeply interested in coffee. Ummm. Coffee.
Teal'c inclined his head, acknowledging the truth of this. That sixth sense of Jack's settled somewhat. He could never, ever, lie to Teal'c. You didn't lie to a guy betrayed by fake gods. It was just… too wrong.
As Teal'c returned to his tent, Jack stared into the embers of the fire, unseeingly.
The next part is here.
Just a little tidbit. You'll get more updates this way.

Date: 2005-02-24 05:05 pm (UTC)And I so love Teal'c here. He's always the one making me smile because of his behaviour... As if he knows everything and keeps it safe just for his own amusement.

Thank you. Teal'c has inserted himself in this story in an unexpected way. There's more with him coming up.

*sigh* Sometimes WIPs can be really a test for patience... But it's so worth the wait. :)
There's more with him coming up.
Looking forward to it.

A month? *chuckles* I vaguely remember you telling us that before...

Date: 2005-02-24 05:43 pm (UTC)Oh. True. The number of parts hasn't changed, it's just life threw me a curveball with, oh, a variety of things. I'm only worried about one scene at this point. Everything else I have sketched out and ready.

Date: 2005-02-24 05:52 pm (UTC)Life can be really bitchy sometimes. I promised myself to update my WIP every month, but during the last months so many things came in-between...
But when you have the most of it ready it's at least manageable.

Date: 2005-02-24 05:34 pm (UTC)So glad you got Teal'c to cooperate. Even if it did include a rather sad comment about being lied to by false gods.

Date: 2005-02-24 05:41 pm (UTC)Sad? Hmm. The sad comment has a very important point - Jack knows damned well what he can't do with Teal'c, what's important to him.

nice icon...
Date: 2005-02-24 09:43 pm (UTC)He stayed deeply interested in coffee. Ummm. Coffee.
You made me giggle...I don't do that too often.
And I loved this part:
He could never, ever, lie to Teal'c. You didn't lie to a guy betrayed by fake gods. It was just… too wrong.
That's just so Jack.
Thanks for remembering us poor "Jerico-ites." (Jericites?) Uh, you know...the Jerico aficionados...another month, huh? I really like getting to the end of a good story, but then again, I hate to see it go! That always happens to me. If I really get into a story, I miss it like crazy when it's over.
I'm looking forward to more Teal'c - far too many people have trouble with his character, so they ignore him and stick him in a corner somewhere out of the way. But when he's done right, he's a real joy to read.
Re: nice icon...
Date: 2005-02-25 04:04 am (UTC)Though Jack's sexiness and dark mood here seems to fit Jericho very well.

Re: nice icon...
Date: 2005-02-25 06:19 am (UTC)I agree that this icon really works for Jericho, though...
Huh...I just realized, all my SG-1 icons are humorous. I guess I need to make myself some new SG icons, as well.

Date: 2005-02-25 06:25 am (UTC)Not to repeat what other have said, but I loved the line:
You didn't lie to a guy betrayed by fake gods. It was just… too wrong.
It is such a great Jack line.
I also like Teal'c amusing himself at Jack's expense. Oh sure, Teal'c didn't snort or anything (which would be very un Teal'c like) but I just get the feeling he enjoyed making Jack squirm like that. (maybe it's just me. I tend to think that underneath it all, Teal'c is amused by SG1's interactions)

I've always had the same impression. And I believe there's canon evidence as early as the second season that Teal'c knows exactly what's going on. In Message In A Bottle Teal'c makes a joke about "undomesticated equines," deliberately getting it wrong.

You've no idea how long I've waited to hear someone admit to this. I can only imagine how much worse than midweek sex it could be. Then you're all nasty and can't shower or even use a toilet and there's the aforementioned marching...just, ew.
It's the little, real touches that are keeping me hooked - on all your stories, actually.

Date: 2005-02-27 04:39 pm (UTC)Hahahahahahahaaaha! Me too. You're beat from hiking, every muscle aches, smell like sex laid over sweat. When you have to hide it on top of it all you just hope nobody pokes their head in your tent and takes a good whiff. The only thing that's good about it is curling up naked with a warm body in a cold tent. That is so nice.

Date: 2005-02-27 06:12 pm (UTC)And it's not like there's a convienent lake right next to the campsite where you can take a warm bath or anything, and even if there is, it's probably cold and muddy, cause it's a lake.
The cuddling bit does sound nice, but since I'm a creature who needs the comforts, I'd rather cuddle with a warm body in a warm bed. Cold apartment, not so bad. Cold tent, um, no thanks, I'll pass.

:smiles and is gleeful: Ooo, if I'd had known all it took was random fandom bitchiness on my part, well, this thing would have been finished already ~_^

The next part of Jericho is up. Sorry, I had a killer assignment, and the next part started to fight me unexpectedly.

Shoot, I thought I responded to this.
Date: 2005-03-07 06:57 am (UTC)Really? Thank you! Yeah, I got hooked on Dr. Jackson's Diary a while ago when I was down with a cold over vacation. Somehow I thought that I read a new fandom I wouldn't be tempted to write.
Silly me.
Isn't season one great? My favorite episodes are The Torment Of Tantalus and The Fifth Race. Anyway, the next part of Jericho is now up.
