I'm passing this along. Most (98%) of my entries aren't friendslocked, but people should know not to use this service. If you do, your friendslocked posts could be available for all to read, as well as the friendslocked posts on your friendslist.

Where Frienditto has been publicly criticized, trolls have come forward to defend it. If trolls are the only defense for Frienditto, there's a red flag for you. I understand those trolls are connected to a comm called lj drama, which is connected Frienditto. Red flags number two and three.

Apparently the site asks you to give them your login and password. If that isn't a red flag... *shakes head*

Here is the response from LJ Abuse:

Dear user,

Frienditto is not affiliated with LiveJournal in any way. As such, this website does not have access to any entries which are not publicly viewable. If someone provides them with their LiveJournal username and password, however, it gives this site access to all non-public entries that account would have access to. We can only recommend that you do not provide your username and password to any person or website to ensure the security of your account.

Additionally, if you believe anyone on your Friends list may have provided their login information to this website, we can only advise that you remove them from your Friends list. This website will have access to your Friends-only entries as long as any person on your Friends list has given the site access. If any content is present on Frienditto which you do not wish to be there, you will need to resolve the issue with that website.

Regards,

Scott

Thanks for the warning.

But really... who's that daft to give away username and password to someone you don't know? *shakes her head in utter disbelief*

Well, con artists usually make that sort of thing seem a-okay, and these folks claim they're associated with LiveJournal. Usually, the horribly naive are the most honest folks around. Too honest to imagine what someone crooked would do with this information.

Unfortunately there are still too much naive people outside to feed them with information.

At my work it's the same. Can you believe that there's a list with the passwords of every employee? Said they need it in case of configurations when you're not around.
I simply refused to give them mine. Told our administrator that he has the rights to change it when he needs to. But be sure that I'll change it again as soon as possible.

Someone who wants to make someone else's friends-locked post available to the public, without the poster's having any control over it or being able to find out who copied it. I'm hoping there aren't many people who would do that in my little corner of fandom.

Oh wow. See, I'm way too innocent to have ever considered that.

Good thing I don't bother with friendslock anymore. Otherwise this would really bother me.

Yeah, same here. I'd be much more worried if I had posts that I didn't want people to see. As it is, I'm mostly just boggled by the uproar.

How perfidious to just bypass the concerns of your friends...
Yeah, I really hope that, too. Normally I trust the sense of responsibility of others.

Yes, it is. Perfidious, that is. Making a locked post available is, obviously, the fault of the person doing it, but I hate that Frienditto is making it so easy to do.

Personally, I'm hoping it just disappears once the furor dies down. Their server apparently can't handle the load it's had the last couple days, which amuses me greatly.

stupidity is, alas, a common malady. fortunately, i do not suffer from it.

In this case it could be either stupidity (which I like to think of as innocence) or intention, as [livejournal.com profile] darththalia pointed out.

I'm afraid that [livejournal.com profile] darththalia's explanation is the most likely, as very few people will knowingly give out their password/login. In which case asking someone to defriend if they use it is pointless.

I didn't even know about it until people began posting about it!

I know. We've just given them all sorts of advertising.

Fortunately, we've also overwhelmed their bandwidth. Hahaha.
