[livejournal.com profile] doctorv has started a Jack/Daniel Cliches list. Whee!

So here's the challenge. You have two choices: either write one of these cliches, or one of [livejournal.com profile] destina's Wish List cliche busters.

Ooops. [livejournal.com profile] titti just informed me that post is f-locked.

1. An in-depth story wherein Jack either comes to terms with being, or realizes that he is, attracted to men -- Daniel in particular. No incessant talking, no hysterical denial or endless interior monologues. Just subtlety, deep emotional impact, angst, and transformation. That process is not easy to capture. I don't think I could do it justice as a writer in an explicit way (implicit is more my thing), and I've rarely read a story in any fandom where it *has* been dealt with well.

2. Jack and Daniel, in an established relationship, are outed to the military. Not in a plot-contrived kind of way, but in a more realistic kind of way. How would the canon Carter and Teal'c and Hammond deal? What would be the repercussions for their relationships with their friends, colleagues, each other? Again, not easy to capture without falling into annoying cliches, ie Cold!Angry!Vindictive!Sam and Warm!Accepting!Hammond.

3. A long, long post-series future story where Jack and Daniel's relationship starts up awkwardly and then fails spectacularly, a la Kat Allison's fabulous due South story End of the Road. This would need to draw on all the potential cracks and differences in their relationship, and it would have to delve *deep* to achive emotional resonance.

4. A pure cliche-fic wherein Daniel gets into a relationship that isn't good for him, and that wakes Jack up. Not an abusive boyfriend...unless that can be done without a pile of cliches, and then that'd be peachy (tho hard to believe)...but more of a 'doesn't make Daniel happy' kind of a thing. Hey, why not? If the show can do it with Sam and Jack, the fan fiction can do it with Daniel and Jack.

5. A good old-fashioned bodyguard story, set around season four and not an AU, wherein Jack is the bodyguard for (insert contrived plot reason here). Oh, what? :D I don't buy that old argument re how Daniel never getting to be the protector = he's always the bottom. In that relationship, unless one makes it extremely AU or wounds Jack to within an inch of his life, Jack will *always* be the one doing the protecting. There's not many instances in which Hammond would send Daniel to protect Jack. Teal'c, maybe. Not Daniel. *g* Besides, it's my wish list, and I want Jack to be the (pocket) protector.

6. More team-oriented mission-based stories. Okay, that's not really J/D, but still. Plotty mission-based stories are always good.

7. When all else fails, how about a nice, old-fashioned, pushing/shoving/biting/growling alpha-male hot sex story? Or aliens made us do it? Or fuck or die? Hmmm. So much for the plotty, angsty, deep angle. *g* Seriously, there can never be too many of these.

C'mon. I dare you. I double dare you.

*Awaits the Jack/Daniel porn. Or plot. Either will do.*

Whoops.

Okay, I'll post the list.

Oh, this is tempting...I wish I hadn't just signed up for another ficathon. My important Oz fic got pushed all the way back to September, so I thought I had the time. But now I want to see if I can tackle number one on Destina's list. That would take some serious work, though. Sigh...

ooh, what I wouldn't give for number 4, and number 5 while I'm at it.

Well, I wholeheartedly endorse your call for porn -- because more J/D porn and/or plot is always a good thing -- but there's a little issue we need to straighten out.

I don't particularly mind that the wish list is now public, and if you had asked, I would have gladly unlocked the post, or given you permission to repost -- but you *didn't* ask, and so you had no way of knowing why I locked the post to begin with. That's why I'm surprised you'd feel so free to publicly repost any portion of my post to your own journal without checking with me ahead of time. If I have locked a post, and thereby restricted access to it, please don't make assumptions re which portions of that post I would or would not mind having made public in their entirety. Ask, instead. It's the polite thing to do.

Sorry about that. Would you like me to delete this?

I'll tell you what, since I made this mistake, I'll delete this part of the post until I hear otherwise. I think these are great requests that I too would like to see, but I should have rephrased them in my own words.

I don't have any objections to you quoting the list here -- as I said, that's not really the issue. It's fine to leave it.

I understand. But as it's a matter of trust as to who you have on your friends list, you should feel confident I won't be quoting you without your permission even if it is to get some of those ideas written. It's not my call.

Careless of me; it would've been a short stop at your LJ to ask.

All is well. And it would be nice to see some of those ideas written.

Drat. I took it down too hastily, so now I have to hunt that post again.

Also, just to be clear --

-- rephrasing my wish list in your own words would still be taking my wish list from a post I made and locked, and making it public. That's my point -- if I lock something in my journal, that's where it should stay, unless you have *asked* me if it's okay for you to share it publicly, no matter what form that takes. And re-writing the wish list in your own words *without* attributing it to me would be a whole different kind of bad. *g*

I understand. It was just late and I wasn't thinking. I wouldn't want anyone to repeat anything from a locked post of mine either. I just so rarely lock them (I've made maybe three locked posts in the last 12 months) that I was surprised yours was even locked in the first place.
