Eeeeeeeeeeee! Stargate!

I don't believe it.
No. No way.
Now I feel soooooo guilty for whining.
I just got an email telling me that last April The Other Man was nominated for a Stargate Fan Award.
Does it have a prayer? Like a snowflake in a volcano. It's nominated in the same category as
thegrrrl2002's brilliantly soft This Day In History.
But wow, I really appreciate it.
I think you should go read The Other Man (the entire point to these awards in my point of view), then vote for
thegrrrl2002's story. Hee.

Date: 2005-06-22 07:25 pm (UTC)Actually, what changed my mind was the response to my frustration post, not this.
I posted a lot of things that if I were correct and the fandom was nasty, etc., then I would have gotten a really vicious response.
I did this back in 2002 with the LotR fandom and my perception that they were "anti-slash": I deliberately posted a well-reasoned pro-slash statement, saying that I what I liked about slash in LotR was that it was outside of LotR canon and left my sense of Tolkien's world intact.
In that case I was correct. I attracted a lot of right-wingers who quoted the bible's prohibitions against homosexuality to me... and two slashers. My feelings were confirmed and I left without further comment.
In this case, the Stargate fandom, while understandably defensive, didn't react at all how I expected.
Don't misunderstand me like this, Lizard. My participation in a fandom isn't founded on the amount of attention I receive for it.
If I were after attention as my main goal, then I would stick with Harry Potter -- and I wouldn't be writing Percy Weasley of all people. I'd stick to writing Harry/Snape.

Date: 2005-06-22 09:21 pm (UTC)It's pretty cool just to get nominated, in my opinion. When I'm looking for good fic I haven't read yet, I have a tendency to go to the past year's nominees in the category I'm in the mood for and just start reading, so you're likely to bring in some new readers that way, as well. As you said, the main reason for these awards is to get your work read. Congratulations, again.

Aww, shucks. Thanks for asking. *g* I'm working on something that started out as a pwp but it keeps growing and changing...I don't really know how it happened. But it seems to be all about the Classic Stargate Themes (all of which we've discussed here on your journal): "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," "Trust" and "Pride." Hopefully it will be ready soon. My beta is ill so it's moving slowly.
