I don't believe it.

No. No way.

Now I feel soooooo guilty for whining.

I just got an email telling me that last April The Other Man was nominated for a Stargate Fan Award.

Does it have a prayer? Like a snowflake in a volcano. It's nominated in the same category as [livejournal.com profile] thegrrrl2002's brilliantly soft This Day In History.

But wow, I really appreciate it.

I think you should go read The Other Man (the entire point to these awards in my point of view), then vote for [livejournal.com profile] thegrrrl2002's story. Hee.

Congratulations! ^_^ Funny how you're not dissatisfied with SG fandom now that people are showing their love for your fics. ;)

Actually, what changed my mind was the response to my frustration post, not this.

I posted a lot of things that if I were correct and the fandom was nasty, etc., then I would have gotten a really vicious response.

I did this back in 2002 with the LotR fandom and my perception that they were "anti-slash": I deliberately posted a well-reasoned pro-slash statement, saying that I what I liked about slash in LotR was that it was outside of LotR canon and left my sense of Tolkien's world intact.

In that case I was correct. I attracted a lot of right-wingers who quoted the bible's prohibitions against homosexuality to me... and two slashers. My feelings were confirmed and I left without further comment.

In this case, the Stargate fandom, while understandably defensive, didn't react at all how I expected.

Don't misunderstand me like this, Lizard. My participation in a fandom isn't founded on the amount of attention I receive for it.

If I were after attention as my main goal, then I would stick with Harry Potter -- and I wouldn't be writing Percy Weasley of all people. I'd stick to writing Harry/Snape.

And by the way, love the recent art. Not too much though, okay? *urges you towards your exams. You're a smart cookie, you can do it.*

Hope you don't mind if I step in here for a sec...I just wanted to second Icarus in good luck on your exams, and sneak in a little mention that if you do *have* to make art and not study, (and I do understand, the impulse is not easy to resist) well, there's all sorts of Stargate stuff you could use for inspiration... [/not too subtle hint]

I didn't want to seem a spoilsport, so I didn't pout out loud on your last two or three HP posts, but more Jack/Daniel would sure make my day.

Wow. Congratulations! That's really cool. The Other Man is a good fic, but that is a tough break being nominated in the same category as This Day In History, if for no other reason than that [livejournal.com profile] thegrrrl2002 is well known in the fandom and has won several Stargate Fan Awards in the past. But it's a good fic, as well. I don't know if the voting will be as one-sided as you think, though. I guess we'll see.

It's pretty cool just to get nominated, in my opinion. When I'm looking for good fic I haven't read yet, I have a tendency to go to the past year's nominees in the category I'm in the mood for and just start reading, so you're likely to bring in some new readers that way, as well. As you said, the main reason for these awards is to get your work read. Congratulations, again.

Oh, I don't care about winning honestly. I consider it a rec and all I think is "Yes!" *pumps fist* "People are gonna read it!"

I've read your SG-1 stuff by the way. When are we going to see more?

*g* Yeah, that's what it's all about, isn't it?

Aww, shucks. Thanks for asking. *g* I'm working on something that started out as a pwp but it keeps growing and changing...I don't really know how it happened. But it seems to be all about the Classic Stargate Themes (all of which we've discussed here on your journal): "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," "Trust" and "Pride." Hopefully it will be ready soon. My beta is ill so it's moving slowly.

I told you The Other Man is my all time favorite piece of fan fiction ever! I'm just glad I'm not the only one who really likes it. Congratulations! You deserve it. :o)
