Snape Manor

Woah. I've just spent the last [insert ridiculous number because I lost count] of hours talking to [livejournal.com profile] cordelia_v about Snape Manor. She now knows the entire plot as it stands now, and why I've been struggling with it.

Do I want to write this story? Even after two years it continues to haunt me.

Am I the last person to read In Between Days by [livejournal.com profile] atrata? Because if I'm not and you haven't, you must read this, as it's the finest, most uncompromisingly relentless characterisation of Snape I've ever read. Snape/Harry, NC-17.

For the time being, I'm off to write Percy/Snape. Or perhaps Jack/Daniel, I'm not sure which, but I'm writing something today.

*beams* Thanks muchly!

(And apparently I am writing you some Snape/Percy (http://www.livejournal.com/users/aubrem/34163.html?thread=366963#t366963). Must find my Percy muse...)

Damned if I know whether you want to write it. I'd love to read it, but I have no investment in any particular outcome.

By way of inspiring you (and a pathetically transparent attempt to pull you back into hp a bit more), I signed up for an offer by [livejournal.com profile] atrata via [livejournal.com profile] aubrem for Atra to write a Percy/Snape ficlet for you. She might take a long time to do it, however. But I think you'd like her take on it.

I could actually become rather fond of Percy/Snape, to be honest.

omg, have visions of Atra/Snape, Icarus/Percy collaborative effort. I tell you, the subs don't usually do much for me but Icarus' Percy ....

Yeah, I dunno how that prompt is going to be a drabble. And I really do love Snape/Percy. I keep meaning to write more, but I'm pretty fickle about ... well. Everything. *g*

[I have written one story (http://www.livejournal.com/community/pornish_pixies/238602.html), but I don't know if you saw it. I think you weren't around much when it was posted. 'You' being Cordelia, since I know Icarus saw it.]

Honestly, I was just about to close this window and go back to my chapter, but you stopped me dead in my tracks, [livejournal.com profile] aubrem.

the subs don't usually do much for me but Icarus' Percy ....

I thought that was just me. Normally, I'd always identify with the dom role, but with her Percy . . . well, he's such a self-righteous, precise personality that . . .well, it's exciting to see him brought to a greater degree of self-understanding. He'd make a great historian. :-) Really. He's anal retentive detail-oriented, organized, and compulsive. And deluded about life's true priorities just enough, so that his ambitions could be skewed enough so that he thought writing history was an actual accomplishment.

So, just visualizing an Atra/Snape and Icarus/Percy collaboration makes me faint with delight. And to make this little fantasy even better, let's throw in [livejournal.com profile] aubrem and Cordelia as betas, eh?

I did see it, but that was when I was on medical leave, I think. And in those days, I was too foolish to appreciate Percy properly. I've bookmarked it now, so I can go savor it again once this damned chapter is finished.

And nothing you ever write is a drabble, dear. That's why I edited it to say "ficlet."

Ha. Not only has Cordelia seen it, she rec'd it to me. But as it's Percy, of course I'd read it first. :D

Atrata, I truly am a fan. Usually, and I mean no arrogance when I say this, I read a fanfic and I can see myself being able to pull this off. Not that I'd ever have the writer's unique creative idea, but were the idea to occur to me, I know I could write it. In most cases, my beta reader light is on and there are few things I'd have done differently.

Not so with In Between Days. I could never have pulled off that story. And there is nothing I would change. My hat's off to you.

I almost always identify with the sub ... would you have guessed that?

(it's because I identify with the sub that I enjoy the dom character)

That's interesting.

I feel like I'm interrupting here, but it's because I identify with the dom that I appreciate the sub.

I'm sure I mentioned this to at least one of you, but did you know that in my circle of historian friends, I'm known as the "academic dominatrix"? That's because I force them all to get their books done, and mailed to the publisher. :-)

One of my friends (I literally went to her house, grabbed the ms. off her desk, and mailed it off for her) wanted to have cards printed up for me with that on them.

I should ask [livejournal.com profile] amelia_eve to make me an icon with that on it, come to think of it. Or, one with a picture of Sirius that says "rimming is the new black."

and how could you possibly be "interrupting" a give-and-take that's on your lj, dear? Obviously, we're choosing to do it here, rather than over at [livejournal.com profile] aubrem's.

That's a yes, you would have guessed I identify with the sub?

: )

Yes, I remember you saying you are the 'academic dominatrix.' : )

OK, since you ask. Yes, I knew that you identified with the sub; it was intuitively obvious, for me. That's why we work well together, eh?

And this is all closely related to that essay I am not writing (yet) about why creating fanfic reviews is akin to seduction and sex. For me, it's an act of domination.

I am totally kicking your ass later. You *know* I can't write doms.

Transparent, yet effective! *laughs*

It's all your fault that I woke up this morning to visions of Torvald telling Snape how he watched the molecules change in a bottle of Scotch over the years, but couldn't touch it.

This story is like slashing a knife across your palm.

Yeah, me too. I'm all subby and stuff, so I can write the things a good [well, IMO] dom would say or do, but the second you ask me to get into his head, it all falls apart.

hm. interesting you were able to read me that way - b/c I don't respond to you that way.

god, fascinating stuff, isn't it? i love this fandom!

Transparent, yet effective!

That's usually one of my most effective strategies, in terms of bending authors and readers to my will, in fact.

You'll like that essay on fanfic reviewing and sex, when I get to it.

Point. Though I could conceivably interrupt a conversation happening in my house. *eyebrows raise*

Gah. I don't even know what to say to something like that that's not blushy and stammery and flaily. Thank you. That story was such a huge part of me, and it's really immensely gratifying that people like it so much.

Oh, no. You're in the role of a committee chair peer with me, usually. I'd treat someone I was mentoring much differently, of course. But, yes, I knew that about you.
