Woah. I've just spent the last [insert ridiculous number because I lost count] of hours talking to [livejournal.com profile] cordelia_v about Snape Manor. She now knows the entire plot as it stands now, and why I've been struggling with it.

Do I want to write this story? Even after two years it continues to haunt me.

Am I the last person to read In Between Days by [livejournal.com profile] atrata? Because if I'm not and you haven't, you must read this, as it's the finest, most uncompromisingly relentless characterisation of Snape I've ever read. Snape/Harry, NC-17.

For the time being, I'm off to write Percy/Snape. Or perhaps Jack/Daniel, I'm not sure which, but I'm writing something today.

some people don't realize the sub position is the controlling position.

Er, I don't think there's a single person in this thread who didn't realize that. And Atra often excercises control in a charming fashion, I agree.

ahem. I remind you that I just manipulated atra into ...

well, I *think* I did ...

and I was just bragging on my victory.

or maybe not. : ) she's generous and will let me think I did though.

Oh, you're a charming and controlling sub, too. And you've had years more experience at developing those skills than Atra has. She hardly stood a chance.

I think that's clear to us all, and it's also the secret of your success as the Reader's committee chair.

And it's also why I'll always lose, if I go up against you or Atra. I'm just not that subtle.

When I'm "up to" anything, it's usually quite clear to my partner. Transparency and honesty work very well, for me. *smiles*

Oh, I think I lost control over this a LOOOOOOONG time ago. If I ever had any to begin with.

I'm gonna go sit in a corner and watch.

Indeed. The most important quality of a Dom is generosity (with a solid work ethic) or they'd never bother.

It's just that with a sub there's a guaranteed return on your investment. Oh yeah.

*rereads (okay, skims) IBD in ten seconds*

*Icarus tips her head at Atrata in disbelief, but decides her unassuming quality is charming.*

Well, okay. I can write a dom. But only from a sub's POV.

*considers what the POV is in one your current WiPs, and quietly chokes. Then bites her tongue, hard*

But he's sub!Snape!

No, he's quicksilver Snape. As impossible to pin down and define, in this respect, as in any other part of his personality. You are taking ambiguous! Snape to new levels, there.

*wriggles and waves hand excitedly*

Oooooh, that could make a nice role reversal in a Percy/Snape story. Snape allows Percy to think that he's the dom, at first (because Percy doesn't admit to himself that he's a sub, of course). Then, sub! Snape turns the tables on him. It would be a great mindfuck story.

Good God, woman. You are the one who writes IBD Snape, after all. And apparently, you lie to yourself about as much as he does. :-)
