Coda to the fire in a sad minor key.

WG had the girl who was handed out the window during the fire over today. I guess it makes sense to get to know her: we've already seen her in her underwear. She let him and The Puppy in (yep, WG's buddy is back in town) and asked to borrow some baking soda.

It turns out my guess was right: they were awakened by someone from the apartment that caught fire. It turns out they went out the window because the smoke in the hallway was really bad.

There was a victim of the fire. The girl whose apartment burned had a cat and while she and her boyfriend got out, her cat didn't make it.

I clutched my kitty and sighed, regretting every flip comment I've made about the fire. I thought everyone had lived.

Poor kitty, but animals are pretty sensitive to smoke. There might have been a chance the cat made it out in time, and is just lost at the moment, or reveling in his freedom. ;-)

I appreciate the hopeful thought, but this is an apartment building. There was no way for kitty to get out. The kitty was not lost. She died.
