Tan-ta-rah!

[livejournal.com profile] rushlight75 has arrived!

*[livejournal.com profile] icarusancalion, [livejournal.com profile] switchknife and [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis hoist onto their shoulders while the tickertape falls. Teeming masses of Harry Potter fans throng, cheering, as a marching band attempts a stumbling cover of the Pistols 'God Save the Queen'... the parade approaches a traffic circle that's been cleared, and the mayor of the fanfic community (who else but [livejournal.com profile] mctabby?) is handed an envelope, an a rather absurdly large key... a script rolls on the teleprompter...*

The Crowd hushes. Sort of.

"We all know why we're here today." Mayor [livejournal.com profile] mctabby reads carefully in a clear voice. Actually, the press office didn't tell her anything, but she figures she'll know by the end of the speech.

"[livejournal.com profile] rushlight75 has made many fine contributions to the fanfic community...

...these includes such gems as 'Rite of Pass -" someone walks in front of the teleprompter and mayor [livejournal.com profile] mctabby attempts to peer around them. "- Passage' and 'Through a Shattered Mirror.' "

The crowd goes wild. Now this the mayor is used to. She holds up her hand.

"While I cannot guarantee [livejournal.com profile] rushlight75 will participate in our Blame Somebody Else challenges -"

The crowd giggles. They're eating out of her hand. The press office deserved a raise for this excellent election-year ploy.

"- I can say she is a welcome addition to any friends list, and...

"...a welcome addition to the Harry Potter Fanfiction Community!"

*wild cheering* After waiting a moment for the crowd to settle, mayor [livejournal.com profile] mctabby hoists the ridiculous key so everyone can see it.

"With no futher ado - " major [livejournal.com profile] mctabby scowled inwardly. How many times had she told the speechwriters to drop the old-fashioned words? She was courting the Young Vote for Merlin's sake! She already had the Dumbledore/Aberforth generation. " - I present [livejournal.com profile] rushlight75 the keys to the city! Welcome to Diagon Alley."

*wild applause!!!!!!!*

*applause for your WiP*

Has Hijja turned down the latest offer from Isis? Ah well, might be my turn next to try luring Hijja!

Only three writers have been able to get me reading Ron-slash and liking it - you, Anna, and Lyle. :)

Lyle is someone I got to know when I was new to the fandom, in late 2001. We shared an interest in Snape/Hermione and assorted Snapeslash; Lyle wrote Bruise Pristine (http://www.angelfire.com/magic/apothecary/bruise.html) (Voldemort/Snape). At the time, she was also working on a long fic called Playing Bastard (http://www.geocities.com/ronanddraco/authors/lyle.html) (Draco/Ron, Snape/Draco non-con, Ron/Harry). I found Lyle's writing style particularly vivid and enjoyable, and ended up beta-reading the last few chapters of Playing Bastard. Meanwhile, Lyle was the second person to read the first draft of TWIB Chapter 1. Last year she was severely distracted by RL and LotR slash (http://www.black-waltz.net/noiresensus/authors/a_lyle.html), and we both left the SS/HG list where we'd originally met. She's still lurking around the HP fandom to some extent, on the HP_Recs list and elsewhere. She wants a LiveJournal, and I've actually given her a code - but the problem is that her home computer can't access this site. Gaaahhh. Hope this can get sorted out; Lyle is good fun - a relatively young writer with a taste for the twisted, and lots of ideas.

Same here, at least in terms of Icarus. I'm not sure who Lyle and Anna are ...? but Ron is just so straight, in my perception of him, that it takes a near miracle to read him in slash, and believe it. Which is why the 'Beg me for it' series is so astounding.
