I'm a cooking fiend this week. I've made soup stock from scratch, spagetti sauce from scratch, my own pizza dough, and - you guessed it - sauce and thus pizza from scratch. An ultra-hot thai dish two nights ago.

Did you know mayonaise is just egg yolk, oil and a little mustard, lemon and vinegar? And a hell of a lot of stirring. Shit, I stirred through two episodes of That 70's Show, Enterprise, and Law and Order before I was finally done.

But now I know how to make mayonaise.

Tonight: I'm making chocolate mousse, from a half-remembered recipe. Hey, I had the egg whites left over from Mayo, right?

I have an idea for a Harry/Percy story. Of all things.

Blender Mayonaisse:
1 egg
2-3 tablespoon fresh lemon or good aged vinegar
2 tablespoons good mustard
1 cup excellent olive oil
Salt and Pepper

Put the first 3 in a blender and let rip. Add a spoon or two of oil at a time to the mixture; when it start to thicken , add the lot slowly until you have a lovely yellow sauce.
It should take no more than 5 minutes.

You forgot a step:

1 - buy blender.

Yep. That's right. I don't own one.

Oooo. I can see Percy covered in chocolate pudding. I mean, he's so clean it would be fun to get him messy. Heh-heh-heh. Oh, you guys are putting evil thoughts into my mind...

*grins devilishly*

I'm kind of a 'third world' cook. I acutally started learning because I was going to Nepal and when I was in India I was a little helpless without those modern conveniences. You don't buy mustard in yellow bottles over there. You buy seeds, then crush them with a pestle, then mix in...

You get the idea.

Hey, loving this summer NW weather, eh? This when it's great to live out here! Great deals on Seattle rents - free months rent, heat included, pet policies so liberal I wouldn't be surprised to see a sign 'Large dangerous carnivores welcome.'

Indeed- my mother is from panama, so she taught me how to use a whisk, a mortal and pestle and how to combine spices. But, being an immigrant also makes you love all the modern conviences- like blenders and food processors, mandolines and microwave ovens.
Of course my favorite kitchen applainces are my knifes and cutting board!
Isn't it lovely? I went to a matinee of JC,S and had sushi outside. Just perfectly blissful. IOn moving: i am still keeping an eye on Fremont and environs. It will depend on auditions in August- i am doing them in Portland and Seattle, so we shall see. Because I will be doing a show in July, I won't be up there- but perhaps August we should get together for an iced coffee?(If you are not on holiday inCanada or something)

Yeah, that'd be great. Sorry, I thought I responded to this, but, well, it was in the middle of all that temp crap.
