Percyness fic acceptance.

The goal with the Percy archive is to provide a central place for Percy fics of all types, shapes and sizes. That means Het, Gen, Slash, all pairings, all warnings -- everything.
I reserve the right to reject any story for any reason. That said, this is at present the only active Percy archive. I want to see the shape and size of this fandom and encourage it to grow.
Naturally, the authors I persue and ask to house their Percy fics will only be those I prefer. But pairings I don't read are very welcome.
I want to avoid becoming an ff.net-style archive, however, plus we need to make sure the stories are Percy-focused. To that end I've hired little elfs to scan each fic (briefly) for a Percy focus, and to check for basic spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors. Stories with errors will be returned politely to the author for corrections. (If a story is returned, please don't ask the elfs to iron their hands. They are merely doing their jobs.)
Quality is important because an archive is not only for the writers but the readers as well. Percy readers are a delicate and discriminating lot, who may have palpitations and come to lasting harm should they encounter too many grammatical errors.
Do please have a Percy-level beta for your stories. With any luck, the elfs will never need to send back a single one.

Date: 2005-10-26 05:05 pm (UTC)If that doesn't get a response, then I hunt through recent reviews: people who have intelligent, insightful and well-written reviews are almost always excellent betas (plus I know they like my stories so they're more likely to say yes). This has resulted in my best beta experiences.
Interestingly, people who proactively offer to beta my next story don't usually work out. Either they're not available, not critical enough, or they're too close to the story and want something specific.
Last, if all else fails I go to Fiction Alley. It usually takes a couple tries but I find good betas there as well.

Date: 2005-10-27 04:46 am (UTC)This has been a tough call for me. Part of why Telanu's Walking The Plank was so excellent was that she only chose Snape/Harry stories she felt were of high quality. I'd like to see that level of quality in the Percy archive.
On the other hand, I want to encourage the growth of the fandom and provide a resource for fandom authors as well as readers. That means allowing a greater latitude than I'd normally give for a "hand-picked" archive.
What I might do is have a page for my own favourites and then have the general archive be relatively open. That might provide a happy medium.

Date: 2005-10-27 02:44 pm (UTC)I like your doubled approach, as long as it wouldn't make too much work for you (or you dragooned enough helping hands to make it less onerous). There's something reassuring about a recs-list appended to a general archive, like reading McKay's Snape/Lupin Starter Kit and then diving into Moonshadow.
Anyway, tag me if you need help. Anything for the Percy-love.

Date: 2005-10-27 09:37 pm (UTC)That is so refreshing. How many times have I read a good story with terrible, horrible, no good, very bad grammar and spelling? Nothing can screw a story up it's arse worse than if you're making mental corrections the whole way through. It just detracts from the overall enjoyment of reading. Speaking of which, I can't wait to read other Percy fics with the different authors' perspectives and charater develipments. I've only read yours so far and I hope the others will be up to standard. Off I go...!
