Happy thanksgiving all!
Nov. 24th, 2005 01:56 pmI have Maria Callas in Carmen playing at full blast. Unfortunately, I will always think of the Gilligan's Island "Never A Lender Nor A Borrower Be" version whenever I hear it, heh.
The traditions have all been checked off the list:
A - ridiculous amounts of food, check.
B - one of the two of us stayed up too late the night before (
wildernessguru), check.
C - the traditional slicing of the hand (I took care of that), followed by the traditional swearing and speedy hop to the bathroom for a bandaid, check.
D - the traditional phone calls/emails to family have been managed early, so we're free to traditionally gorge.
And gorge we shall.
Snacks
- brie
- muenster cheese
- veggies & sour cream dip
- apple cider
- tooth-rotting Pepsi
- cashews
- chips and cheese nips
Dinner
- 16 lb. turkey with onion & carrots & rice stuffing
- gravy (WG makes it from turkey drippings)
- acorn sqash
- tossed spinach salad
- potatoes (either baked or mashed, the jury's still out)
- fresh baked bread (just baked this morning, ahhhh, the house still smells like it)
Dessert
- homemade cheesecake (with homemade crust)
- yellow cake (not-so-homemade, heh)
- homemade pumpkin pie (with whipped cream, and Cool WhipTM for WG because he doesn't like the real thing, the heathen)
- Haagen Dazs peach ice cream, triple chocolate, and vanilla
After that we shall, very traditionally, collapse.
Happy Thanksgiving all. :D
ETA: my blue-collar guy paused in his turkey preparations to say, "Ah. I like this song."
What was playing? Mussorgsky's "Pictures At An Exhibition." *g*
