Black Sails
by Icarus
It was night and the fog roiled across the deck, the snap of sails lazy and becalmed. Fourscore men slept below her creaking timbers, unaware of what lay just off her forward bow. The wheel rolled helplessly with the lift of the tides.
A tall shape to port arose in the mist, distant, dark as a shadow, moving slow but purposefully towards them.
There was a lookout, or else there should have been, but the crow's nest swayed empty in the sky, with naught but a large fat rat crawling down ropes as thick as a man's arm. It moved with curious directness and speed, avid light in its eyes. The listless flag lifted with a breath of wind—sable, with the dreadful skull and snake's tongue—then fell dead, as asleep as its crew. At the base of the mainsail the rat clambered over limp hand of the helmsman where he lay sprawled across the deck.
The wash of oars drew closer, a first hint that indeed, men crewed this ship gliding through the waters, smooth as ghost, unheeded. As she breached a gap in the fog her masts like skeletons reared out of the mist, her shabby sails rent and torn. Faces with glittering eyes eagerly lined her decks. The flag she flew stirred but once. Black as the hearts that crewed her.
On the gunwale, the rat rose on its hind legs, sniffing the wind as if it held some rare treat. Peter was a traitor once again.

Mocking Disney
by Icarus
"Go to sleep, baby mine…"
Harry's lashes slid shut. He burrowed deeper into Cedric's warm lap with a little sigh. The mermaid flipped her tail and winked at them as Cedric ran his fingers through Harry's damp hair. Softly, his hand teased down Harry's arm.
"Close your eyes, baby mine…"
Cedric's hand trailed to Harry's thigh, then stroked back up his chest. Harry smiled, eyes still closed.
"Go to sleep…"
"Cedric," Harry murmured, "Who's singing?"
"Hmm?" Cedric said, stirred from his reverie.
"Dreams so deep…"
Harry's brow furrowed as he blinked. "Someone's singing."
Cedric's warm eyes smiled down at him. "Yeah, I noticed that."
"Baby of mine…"
Harry stood up, clutching a towel to his waist, "Myrtle!"

Rating: PG
Character: Ron, Sirus Black
Word Count: 200
Prompt: Genre, James Bond
Ron As Q
by Icarus
"No! Don't touch that!" Ron yelled.
He was too late. Yellow sparks flew and Sirius ducked away from the platform. The sleek Muggle automobile shrank to the size of a rat, and then down to something like a large black tick. It crawled under the platform. Ron struggled after it, then picked it up with a pair of tweezers and dropped it into a beaker.
"I think it has a few bugs in it," Sirius observed with a tight wry smile.
"It is a bug," Ron explained with an exaggerated sigh. "You can't use your wand as Padfoot, right? Can't Apparate?" He rattled the beaker and the bug slid in circles. "This'll burrow into your fur and all you'll have to do is scratch it and – Bam! You have a getaway car. It flies too," he added. Ron had gone far beyond his father's casual interest in Muggle toys.
"Interesting." Sirius peered into the beaker curiously. On closer examination it was still shaped like a car. "How am I supposed to drive it if I'm a dog?"
Ron gave him a blank look. The techs behind him fell silent. "Okay, so it has a few bugs in it."
In other news, I'm lovin' the Rodney/John in SGA.

I am devouring this ship...I spent most of this weekend reading and a good portion of today at work. *snerk
(And I'm still in love with your drabbles. *g*)

Date: 2005-12-06 07:45 am (UTC)Have you read A Beautiful Lifetime Event (http://www.intimations.org/fanfic/stargate/lifetime_event.html)? I'm fascinated by this fic, and I've asked WG's opinion on the plausibility of it taking them that long. How about Resonant's Advantage? Face Value? How 'bout the one where John gets the teleportation device stuck in his hand? Or the funny one where they're stuck up a tree?
Gah, I want to discuss these fics with someone.
(And I'm still in love with your drabbles. *g*)
That was fun. I'm looking forward to Thursday.

Date: 2005-12-06 07:54 am (UTC)I'm about halfway through Advantage and I'm debating staying up to read it or finishing it at work tomorrow. *g*
I don't think I've read Face Value yet. (Got a link? *g*) I've gone through pretty much all the McShep on Luthien's rec page so far and I'm starting on Isis's and cimorene's lists next. Hee.
The teleportation device! OMG, I read that one this afternoon. Priceless. I loved that. Have you read any of the Harlequin challenge fics? The mail order bride AU is really quite, quite good.

Date: 2005-12-06 08:06 am (UTC)Are there any more Harlequin fics that don't really subtract a lot of canon? Because I've heard they're great, but I've been leery.
Teleportation device -- my favorite moments are the two of them playing with the technology and pushing themselves too far. "Should I throw the pencils point first now?" -- Hee. And Rodney's wicked grin. And John's, "You should try shooting at me next." *squawk* So stupid, and so them. They're such... boys!
Jack and Daniel in SG-1 are men, responsible, grown up, with tons baggage (ex-wives, dead loved ones, divorce, the works). Rodney and Sheppard are kids!
Advantage is excellent. It was the first one I read. Oooo... and you've got to read Oblivious, and the marriage fic (trust me, it's not even remotely cloying, it's hilarious).

Date: 2005-12-06 08:18 am (UTC)I'm keeping an eye out for the Harlequins that aren't too AU-y. If I find any, I'll pass them your way. There was one that I started today that I backed out of because it was just too AU for me--can't remember what it was, but Isis had rec'd it, I believe. I may go back and read it sometime, but right now I'm thirsty for the canon.
The pencils! HAH! Yes! And the "graphite won't kill you..." *dies* And was the bit in the medical bay not the best? And John stealing the coffee for Rodney. *happy sigh*
Which marriage fic? I think I read one this weekend that was hysterical where Rodney plans this wedding on John. Is it that one? Because I absolutely adored it.

Date: 2005-12-06 08:50 am (UTC)Yes, that's the one -- absolutely railroads him into it. My favorite moment was the wry: "...which made it sound like Rodney was into this for the real estate."
Have you read Shallot's Oblivious yet? It's another where Rodney's "full steam ahead" personality steamrolls John. Do keep me abreast (Icarus' inner juevenile snickers, having read way too much Rodney/John) of the good Harlequin fics. Also, my recent post has a goldmine of recs. Isolde is sending me her extra copy of the pilot and The Grrrl is helping me out with the rest.
Whee, this is fun. Don't tell me you're not bunnied yet, because I know you are.
