Well, now that many of you have read OotP, I'm going to post vague references to it in my LJ. Any specifics will still go under cut tags.

I expected 'Primer to the Dark Arts' to be hit out of the ballpark into AU territory. That situation is better than I expected, although the main issue is the characterisation of Harry is definitely based on GoF (though it takes off in its own direction).

I didn't expect JKR to write many of my ideas for 'Snape Manor'. My jaw dropped as I read them. The general idea was in OotP, even some specifics were very similar. I can't tell you what that's like, to find your ideas in print before you've written them, to know now that you're going to come off as a rip-off when the intent was to write something fairly original. Sigh. Well, it's fanfiction anyway. I wish I hadn't waited to post.

My first reaction was 'I'm not going to write Snape Manor now. It's already been done.' Now that I've calmed down, I think that the focus of 'Snape Manor' is simply going to change. Thank you to those of you who have urged me not to drop 'Snape Manor', your comments were a ray of light in a bleak moment.

Don't worry, darlin....It's fan fiction!...It's all a rip-off when you come down to it!

Hurray!

Excellent! I was thinking about what you said and I think it's a very cool direction for the story. Yes.

It's a shame that happened. It must have felt awfully disconcerting.

My favorite feature of your writing has always been the way you describe magical surroundings and innovations. It's too bad that you have to shift the focus, but since you're a highly competent storyteller on all fronts, I'm betting it still ends up being a great story.

Okay, I'll work on it. CLS has already volunteered to Beta.

Wow. Thank you so much. That really means a lot to me. We'll see what happens with the Manor. I have three chapters already partially written from before.

I'm glad ...

... you're going to carry on with it, because I really want to see more of Snape Manor. I don't think it matters that you anticipated some of the details of OoTP - your style is so distinctive that whatever you write will be unique anyway.

I must admit that my first thought after reading the book (which I loved, by the way) was that this was the end of everything I've been working on lately. But then I got the itch to write again, and there were things I still wanted to do with my fic, regardless of a certain central character now being missing from canon, so I'm just going to carry on regardless.

So what if it's AU from now on. It's not like I haven't written AU stories before. Besides, technically speaking *all* fanfiction is AU and if people aren't interested in what I post, then that's okay because at the end of the day I write for my own amusement anyway, or what's the point?

So have at ye, and know that you'll have one happy reader here!
