Snape Manor
Jun. 23rd, 2003 12:46 pmWell, now that many of you have read OotP, I'm going to post vague references to it in my LJ. Any specifics will still go under cut tags.
I expected 'Primer to the Dark Arts' to be hit out of the ballpark into AU territory. That situation is better than I expected, although the main issue is the characterisation of Harry is definitely based on GoF (though it takes off in its own direction).
I didn't expect JKR to write many of my ideas for 'Snape Manor'. My jaw dropped as I read them. The general idea was in OotP, even some specifics were very similar. I can't tell you what that's like, to find your ideas in print before you've written them, to know now that you're going to come off as a rip-off when the intent was to write something fairly original. Sigh. Well, it's fanfiction anyway. I wish I hadn't waited to post.
My first reaction was 'I'm not going to write Snape Manor now. It's already been done.' Now that I've calmed down, I think that the focus of 'Snape Manor' is simply going to change. Thank you to those of you who have urged me not to drop 'Snape Manor', your comments were a ray of light in a bleak moment.

*eagerly awaits*

Date: 2003-06-23 08:06 pm (UTC)My favorite feature of your writing has always been the way you describe magical surroundings and innovations. It's too bad that you have to shift the focus, but since you're a highly competent storyteller on all fronts, I'm betting it still ends up being a great story.

I'm glad ...
Date: 2003-06-24 11:25 am (UTC)I must admit that my first thought after reading the book (which I loved, by the way) was that this was the end of everything I've been working on lately. But then I got the itch to write again, and there were things I still wanted to do with my fic, regardless of a certain central character now being missing from canon, so I'm just going to carry on regardless.
So what if it's AU from now on. It's not like I haven't written AU stories before. Besides, technically speaking *all* fanfiction is AU and if people aren't interested in what I post, then that's okay because at the end of the day I write for my own amusement anyway, or what's the point?
So have at ye, and know that you'll have one happy reader here!
