Next part of skating AU
Mar. 6th, 2006 07:46 pmThe next part of that skating AU is written.
Er.
All 400 words of it. Okay, so... looks like I need to take two parts together, eh?
ETA: *Icarus beats down angst!filled John/Rodney porn with detailed description of a slow sensual seduction of a nervous Rodney by John. With extra touching and... fingers.* Why? Because I don't have time. You, oh angst!fic, will just have to wait in line after the skating!AU and the Remix, yeh?

Date: 2006-03-07 05:01 pm (UTC)Besides, I really like the idea of Rodney skating to Stravinky's powerful Danse Infernale, and I've included music and everything.

Date: 2006-03-08 12:05 am (UTC)And your boyfriend as a beta reader -- sounds great, apart from the immediacy; I sometimes wish I had a guy beta to male-check the voices and characterisation. & ;-)

Date: 2006-03-08 12:21 am (UTC)Unfortunately, much as he likes Sheppard (though doesn't feel he should be in command) and thinks Rodney deserves a spanking (bare-bottomed!), I can't get him into SGA the way he's into SG-1.
Stargate SG-1 apparently has extremely accurate military hardware with some unusual pieces (especially Carter's gear) but SGA has abandoned the military advisors it seems. The gear and strategy is nowhere near as accurate and the boyfriend complains bitterly every episode. Every time they show the Atlantis gateroom he starts in about how poorly defended it is....

Basically, he's Perfect For An SGA Slash Writer? & ;-)
Well, yes; someone posted meta about that -- they work with the Air Force on SG-1, so it all tends to be accurate.
That said, I don't like SG-1 with its manly men and big damn heroes, not one bit (except Sam, perhaps. She seemed cool).

Date: 2006-03-08 05:54 pm (UTC)It's all about context. SG-1 came out when Star Trek: The Next Generation was winding down and spinning off into Deep Space Nine and Voyager.
The idealism and high-flying morals of the crew of the Star Trek universe was a stark contrast to SG-1's world of ordinary people.
Jack was a great soldier, but had a soldier's ruthless sensibility. He made some cold-blooded decisions that were morally suspect, though you couldn't fault his intentions. Daniel was a brilliant linguist, but had a scientist's ego and impracticality. He'd drag the team into danger through his own insatiatiable curiosity. Then the two of them would squabble over the right course of action while the mission hung in the balance. Their dynamic really made the show.
I admit, without Jack I'm not looking forward to season 9 (no cable so I'm a year behind on both shows), but you really ought to give the earlier episodes a second look.

Yes, that's part of it, definitely, and I'd generally be willing to try new things, but I must confess I stumbled across SGA before -- they've been airing the show in this country for quite a while now -- but couldn't keep watching for more than five minutes...and even the worst BtVS episode or the most wretched Alias moments could not do that. Some archetypes and some scripts just aren't for me, I think; it's a matter of personal taste:
I really seem to be into SGA and its crew of misfit heroes. SGA and its crew of misfit heroes (http://perchance-to-dream.net/mona/indexsga.htm). & ;-)

Date: 2006-03-08 06:27 pm (UTC)*hand-wavy gesture* I'm convinced you've just missed the good stuff. I almost didn't get into SGA because the first ep I saw was "38 Minutes."

Date: 2006-03-08 06:31 pm (UTC)There musta been a few "38 Minutes" equivalents on SG-1, then. *g* But I'm sure you're right and there are really good eps, too.
I already have too many fandoms, anyway. *deep sigh*
