Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] zortified, for letting us know that the Stargate Fan Awards have begun again.

To take you back in time, this time last year I had written a about four Stargate SG-1 fics, and was in the process of writing The Walls Of Jericho. I wasn't in the Stargate fandom beyond writing... back then I was a little sensitive about SG-1 spoilers. So I'd never heard of this until someone let me know that my short-short-shortfic The Other Man had been nominated. I was a) stunned, and b) pleased as punch.

Some people don't believe in these awards. They say "aw, only the crappy fics win and it's embarrassing to the fandom." I say participate and nominate. Why?

#1 - They've been running these awards since 2001 and know what they are doing.

#2 - The site is attractive and easy to use.

#3 - [livejournal.com profile] painless_j is correct: nominating good stories is a way to avoid that frustrating problem of "aw, only the crappy fics win."

#4 - In truth, the nominations become a centralized reclist. So please, nominate that OMG!excellent Zelenka fic even if you know it has little chance. After the dust settles, and the awards are given to embarrassed recipients, the links to the nominations remain.

[livejournal.com profile] zortified has wise suggestions about remembering what to nominate that I shall repeat.

Go to rec-lists.

Mine is right here
[livejournal.com profile] destina has an excellent one here
[livejournal.com profile] amothea does a lot of recs
[livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn has a great list here
[livejournal.com profile] paian does many great recs
Isis' Recs
And there's Double Treat whose URL I don't have handy -- not to mention your own favorite reccers.

This will help remind you of stories you've read throughout the year. Because chances are, if you liked it, someone else did as well.

If the story you're looking for was recent, check [livejournal.com profile] jackslashdaniel, [livejournal.com profile] sga_newsletter, [livejournal.com profile] sga_noticeboard for announcements. Then there's always the archive search at Wraithbait and Area 52.

Okay. Have at it and have fun. *scrams to nominate that OMG!Great Zelenka fic*

ETA: Nominations close the end of April. Void where prohibited.

You have an OMG!Great Zelenka fic to rec? What story it is? Who wrote it? I'm always on the lookout for great Zelenka.

You've probably read it. It's by [livejournal.com profile] purna, called... hmm... I think it was called Three Graces. It's Zelenka/Weir with John/Rodney, but really, the characterization of Zelenka (and cool plot) makes this story.

Here is the link for my recs by genre and this is my Master List I add new fics to it about every week, it's kind of bare bones but I do a lot of talking about the fics in my LJ.

Good points about nominating and voting in Awards. It's nice to know someone out there liked one's stuff, I say. *g*

(Yes, ahem, I'm dropping by for the obvious reasons. Carry on with your paper. *whistle* All I know of the Maharajas I basically learned on Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur and during my Rajasthan trip in general.)
