Remix deadline!

I just finished my Remix fic, and let me tell you, it was like pulling teeth. The resulting story is... *frowns*

It needs a beta. Badly.

I had no chance to work on it before yesterday, so I picked an easy story to remix and then did a Namowrimo -- just type and keep typing till you hit the end.

Beta? Anyone? (She asked desperately.) It's SGA and has sex.

Fact was, I got an author who writes perfect little angst-lets and I couldn't figure out how to even begin remixing her... and I just had exams and I forgot I even signed up - well, at least it's not until midnight ET... thanks for the beta offer, I'll see if I can't figure something out...

I got an author with a similar voice to my own, so I struggled to find anything I'd do differently.

Finally I just found a story that wanted porn, and added porn. *snerk* At top speed.

Just tell me what you want done: a cursory check that's just slightly more thorough than your spell-checker, or an in-depth scapel-like examination of your story's strengths and weaknesses.

The real bother is that I've never remixed before, and so I don't know what I'm allowed to do. Am I allowed to write a prequel/sequel? Am I allowed to go off on a tangent?

I was going to investigate all this before I started writing and now I've run out of time - there is a story with sequel/prequel potential, and another one that just begs for an off-on-a-tangent story, but... graaah.

I managed a sequel by incorporating the original storyline from a different POV (say, summarizing it in a report) and then continuing it. My understanding is that it can't be separate story, say, an additional chapter without re-doing the original fic in some form.

I just finished extensive edits and a re-write of the entire second half. Both you and mad_maudlin saw the same structural problems that I did -- and saw something that I hadn't noticed: the lack of insight into what was going on in John's head in the second half. I realized why that was (I didn't buy the second half, personally) so I found a way to write the same thing in a way I believed it.

Hopefully you'll see this and have a final look sometime tonight. Because the changes I made were too radical to consider them beta'd at this point.
