WG's mom.

Today WG's mom goes in for a kidney test to see if both kidneys are still working.

On Thursday, they operate to remove three cancerous growths they discovered last week during a routine procedure. We found out Saturday.

She had uterine cancer a year ago but made it through without having to do debilitating chemo. She has had CAT scans every 90 days to check for a reoccurance, and 90 days ago there was nothing.

So this cancer has to be very aggressive.

wildernessguru is very shaken. The family is being upbeat and positive, but when he talked to his sister she was in tears and she's normally the go-getter and pillar of strength.

His mom is the archetypal mom you see in 1950s TV shows, an active homemaker with lots of friends and projects. She has a degree in Egyptology and taught university for a while. She's thoughtful and kind and down-to-earth, fun to talk to for hours on end. WG's the baby of the family and they're very close.

WG's sleeping right now, and the kitty has been acting very vulnerable and extra-snuggly. I'm more frazzled than I expected.

God, that's awful; I'm so so sorry for WG (and for you.) I think all you can do is take deep breaths, think positive thoughts, and try to stay calm--and to know that there's a LOT they can do about this kind of thing, nowadays.{{hug}}

Of course my first solution is "read fanfic!" which is probably not the most practical solution.

Ces is right. Staying calm and being nice to each other and yourselves is a good plan. And let other people be nice to you too. I hope the week gets better for all of you.

Yeah, that's true. She's already been through so much with this that it's just... exhausting to have it start all over again. Mostly for her. She's getting the best possible care, and at this point all we can do is wait and pray. She didn't do chemo last time, so that means it's still a (very unwelcome) option.
