wildernessguru likes to window shop for things out of our price range. This morning he was scanning the Real Estate section:

"Oh hey, wow, this is a deal."

Icarus: "Mmmph?"

"An island for only 1.8 million dollars! In the Philippines. It has 10 two-bedroom villas -- that would pay for it right there -- a dive shop, a beach cabana, a large multipurpose building, two heli-pads...."

Icarus: "And pirates!"

He cracks up. "But do you realize how cheap that is for an island? Me and The Puppy could go in on it," he continues enthusiastically.

my mom once found a castle in virginia for sale. she and her best friend dreamed up all the possibilities. they could rent the grounds for weddings. 3 weddings could be going on at once. one in the hall, one out back, one in the front. the wedding party would bring their own caterers and cleanup crew, and momma would just collect checks. and there was a fireplace in the master bathroom...*sigh*

That's a very good price: any of those components --either of the villas, the dive shop, the island itself-- could easily cost more than that alone; I don't blame WG! I'd almost be suspicious of such a low price, and definitely be tempted to snatch it up myself if I had that kind of cash (*glance at checkbook, which is has about a thousanth the amount I'd need*)-- probably the thing to remember is "location, location, location": I suspect it's a really out-of-the-way island.

Actually, I was serious about the pirates. The modern version tote AK-47s and use the proceeds to fund Islamic opposition groups (or so they claim). Mostly they engage in kidnapping and ransom, with Asian tourists being their favorite targets (their governments pay ransoms, while the US won't).

How much you wanna bet that this island has a serious infestation?

You know, there are enough people interested that we could do this as a fandom project. One person runs the bungalows. Another the shop. Another hires the mercenary squad to protect the place....
