I should wait until the [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic Mission Report challenge is over to do a round-up, but I really couldn't resist.

It's great to see Sheppard as the commander, healing himself and his team after "Grace Under Pressure." Zelenka understands Rodney very well. Then Rodney's last line is… you'll nod, and then applaud him.

Fun, and exactly what I wanted from this challenge: sex, humiliation, and humor. The email format is beautifully done, their exchanges and comments a riot (especially Ronon's editorializing and John dodging). Elizabeth's obviously dying for this embarrassing report… ha.

Mission Report by [livejournal.com profile] lim
I admit to dreading this one. Teyla, from an oral tradition, sets her report to music which was written, played -- and sung -- by [livejournal.com profile] lim? There are so many ways this could be bad. But then the comments piled up. I even scanned through them – are these people whose tastes I know and trust?

Wow, was I wrong to delay downloading. This is beautiful, professionally done, elegant use of dissonant blue notes, shifting gently from a major to minor key. Her voice is similar enough to Teyla's (sorry, can't remember the actress' name) to pass, with an Enya-like clarity, and the music is appropriate to the Athosian culture, just jazzy enough to make it unexpected and interesting, with striking syncopated rhythmic patterns.

By the way, I'm still listening to it on continuous loop. Yeah, it's that good. I love ethnic music.

Ah, John's poor typing, their conversation interrupting each other's reports, Rodney insulting the natives – We should have offered something they needed and could use more, like soap, but they'd probably just eat it. -- this rough draft is very rough, and very funny.

The Relevant Data by [livejournal.com profile] millefiori
[livejournal.com profile] cesperanza's dolphin story is a classic, but did you ever wonder what was in that that report, and how the SGC reacted? Note some fine reading-between-the-lines on the part of Sam Carter. That woman is smart.

On that note, if anyone would like to beta my mission report, I would be most grateful. [livejournal.com profile] auburnnothenna has already seen it, but I hope a (deprived) someone who's not read her "In the City of Seven Walls" (a.k.a., the story's that eaten my brain) would have look-see.

*looks hopeful, if not altogether certain anyone will respond*

No spoilers, actually, except for ones that you'd get reading the first few hundred words or so. I'm just trying to see if the story stands on its own without knowing Seven Walls.

You're right, I may be asking the impossible. She's moving ahead on the stoy.

I deal with my Seven Walls addiction by rereading Seven Walls. It's like a methadone program without the methadone. *g*

i just re-read it two or three days ago and found that the addiction does not go away and I have to read other stories to not think about hers as much.

okay I guess it would help to find someone who hasn't read the story to see if it stands alone okay or not. um in that sense you can ignore my last request. :) I don't think I can help you on that regard.

The key to ending all addictions is two-fold. 1) Recognizing you have a problem. 2) Wanting it to end.

I fail on point two. *g*

I'm ignoring the other part and sending you the story. You can just pretend you've never read Seven Walls.
