I confess, I find gossip dull. [livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru comes home from work with the latest about this and that co-worker and even if I've met them, wow, I don't care.

I confess, I find negative gossip depressing. [livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru comes home from work with news about the latest screw-ups in this or that person's work or personal life and especially if I've met them, wow, I really don't want to hear it. It makes me want to help them, and if I can't, it leaves me feeling helpless and unhappy.

There's a reason I'm always out of the loop. In fandom and out of fandom. I miss WG telling me about world news, sigh.

I have 2,700 words of the next part of Out Of Bounds (a.k.a. the skating fic) done. You guys want it, or would you like to wait for the next part?

WAIT FOR THE NEXT PART!

No, I'm not usually fond of WIPs. Yes, I'm a hypocrite. 0 :-)

Wait for it - I need no more excuses to not work on my paper...

What if the next part is done tomorrow? What will you do then?

Ah, but I won't have the access to read it tomorrow, as I'll be at the library (and without internet) from 8-915, in lab from 930~1, class from 2-315, work from 4-830, and having said paper edited until some time of night.

So really, that was mostly a today thing :)

Are we taking votes here, because I go for post it now. Then again I think I said this (perhaps to myself without the actual posting) last time you asked. Not to mention that erm ... procrastination is my friend.

Also? I loathe gossip. Loathe it with an intense loathingness of loathe. See, I even make no sense about it.

Done. As you've been the first to notice. I'm posting in much larger chunks than is my norm, on the other hand, when I post short pieces I'm usually every few days, fast and furious.

Also? I loathe gossip. Loathe it with an intense loathingness of loathe. See, I even make no sense about it.

Gossip is the dreck of conversation. Take all conversation in existence. Wring out intelligent insight, compassion, and an ability to see from another person's point of view, and you have gossip.

I was just thinking about that story this morning! For no reason at all, as I went to look out my window, that bit where John asks Rodney how he can possibly tackle the jumps if he doesn't do weights. So, my answer is Please, Yes, Now.

I'm pretty mixed on gossip. Because, on the one hand, I think that it's how we find out all the stuff that actually matters.

But at the same time, I just can't stand the mindnumbing obsessions some people have with other people. I'm working with someone right now who needs a lot of attention. Seriously. We used to have other people in our area, and I would just stay in my office and let them all have at. But now, I actually have to clock a certain amount of gossip time daily if I want my work life to be bearable (that can't be spelt right).

It's fascinating, in a "watch the monkeys pick each others' lice" sort of way.

You have your wish, a little later than I planned. The next bit is up.

It's fascinating, in a "watch the monkeys pick each others' lice" sort of way.

Or, to be disgusting, in a zit-popping sort of way? :)

But at the same time, I just can't stand the mindnumbing obsessions some people have with other people.

It's the dull recital of facts about such-and-so who said thus-and-such, with the oblique indication of how I'm supposed to respond. I usually find myself defending the person being gossiped about just on principle.

Offtop: Translation Request

Hello!
Sorry for offtop, but I've already sent you e-mail and I'm afraid that the letter might be regarded as a spam. So, I repeat the letter.
I am Regana and I am an Russian fic-reader and translator. I'd like to ask you to allow me to translate one of your HP-fics into Russian language. I mean "Guy Talk". Although I don't really like Harry/Ron pairing but you've described this pair so magnificent that I could not leave this fic and don't share it with other Russian fans.
Also if you give me permission for translation can I post the text to some Russian archives?

Could you please send me your answer to my e-mail regana@bk.ru or post it here.

Thank you for your excellent job.

Regana

Regana, I apologize, I haven't checked my spam filter in a million years. Nothing makes me happier than translations. I consider it an honor and a thrill. Please, please, please translate "Guy Talk" -- and let me know if you need anything from me. Also, I announce translations here and upload copies of translations to my website with a link to wherever you post them. So let me know when it's complete and where you'd like me to link to. I have some friends who are Russian and would like to read it.

Thank you again, and good luck. I look forward to it.
