icarus: (Out Of Bounds 2)

After all the excellent writing advice you guys offered I started first reading fanfiction. I discovered that I was critical of all writing at the moment, even stories that I love.

That took a lot of pressure off, convincing me that this is all in my mind.

I went to the figure skating performance (the Nationals are still coming up) and got a scent of something... indefinable... about a skating performance. I limped along trying to describe the experience to [livejournal.com profile] amothea in chat and came up empty.

In response the many suggestions to just write, I began carrying my writing notebook again. I'd stopped, to my surprise, and discovered this fact when I was at the figure skating competition intermission, wanted to write some more to Out Of Bounds -- and found no notebook. For the first time since 2003. I scribbled a little on the back of an envelope, and filled a page of notes this morning. I'm keeping it loose, as [livejournal.com profile] yin_again offered, letting the blanks be blanks.

The music yesterday helped spark a (very silly) scene, and I feel myself thawing -- especially since Sunday's skating event.

Yeah. I think this is going to work. I'm letting myself skip ahead on the story.

Guys, thank you for help giving me my stories back.

You'd stopped carrying a notepad? Woah, is ever that a bad sign. Glad you have it again and that you are beginning to feel things start to thaw. Sometimes you just have to let the story speak for itself and well, ignore the less shiny parts for awhile.

Glad you got something from the skating. Hopefully with a little time to think on it you won't come up empty trying to describe it. Distance from that sort experience often helps.

Long may the global warming of your writing continue!

Now there is a sentence I never thought I'd say :)

Global warming... hee. It fits in a way.

You'd stopped carrying a notepad? Woah, is ever that a bad sign.

The really bad sign? I didn't notice that I'd stopped carrying it. I think that happened somewhere in November. I have it now though. :) And I did finally notice -- right when I was inspired to write.

Just to let you know, I am trying to send you some Preservation Hall stuff, but me and WinZip and Gmail are not exactly communicating well right now. I'm gonna try again tomorrow night to get the files down to a reasonable size--there are a bunch of songs I want to send you!

And I, for one, am stoked that you're getting the mojo back. I went to your site the other night and read (or re-read) all your SGA fic, including Out of Bounds, so I'm quite excited at the prospect of more. :-)

Whenever you have time. Hmm. Do you need a yahoo email address instead? Because if gmail's causing problems, I'm also at icarus_ancalion@yahoo.com.

*blinks* That's a bit of reading.

It is. I'm just... going very easy on myself right now. I'm planning on posting something (not Out Of Bounds related) tonight or tomorrow.

If you need any info on skating in particular - what it's like at a comp, or a practice, or whatever, let me know. How we prepare for comps - even down to rehearsing how to step onto the ice from the doors :grins: How I can hear my coaches voice echoing off the rafters while I'm practicing. How a practice session feels. Competition hotels and the fans in the lobby. You name it.

Are you ever on Y!M? Will you be around Friday or this weekend? Because -- {{{glomps}}} -- you are exactly what I've been hoping for. My yahoo messenger id is the same as my LJ name, icarusancalion.

Barring that, hmm... tell me about your favorite program. Beginning to end, in your own words.

I'm rarely on YIM, and I mostly do computer crap during the day, because my job is very computer focused. At night and on weekends, I mostly leave the computer behind. And Friday night is actually one of my lesson and practice times.

When you say "favorite program" you mean one I've skated, versus one I've seen, yes?

I'm writing this up now. Hope to have it to you tomorrow or Monday.

If there's anything specific I should include, let me know and I'll do so.

Yay! I hope you have an easier time of it - and fun! Because starting to finally write after a period of nothing is insane fun, at least for me. I love it!

Yay! So glad to hear that the glacier of writer's... well, not block, maybe, but dissatisfaction? ...is starting to crack for you.
