I figured out the secret to writing my WIPs.

Have something I want to do less. Yes! Avoidance of other stories will direct one to the long-neglected WIP, tut suit.

And now for your entertainment, inspired by [livejournal.com profile] teaphile: A Stargate Atlantis worst-case scenario guide.

Everyone's panicking about just what season four might bring. Trembling in fear. It's time to bring those fears out into the open. What is the worst that can happen?

Sam Carter appears in every episode (with Amanda Tapping acting as well as she has these last few years). Then she's signed on for season five... eeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiii!

Face those fears. You can do it!

The Replicators sweep through the Pegasus Galaxy handily defeating the Wraith, thus replacing a foe that has some mystery with one that's been beaten to death. Aaaaaaaack!

It's good for you.

Carson is brought back for one episode -- and they kill him again! *cowers*

You'll be so much better off for having dealt with it.

Afterwards, Carson appears as a ghost in Atlantis giving medical advice at key moments. Noooooooooooo!

It's okay. You can let it out.

John Sheppard strikes up a lasting relationship with Jewel. Teyla and Jewel have a cat fight over him. Carson appears with ghostly bandaids. The season ends with John and Jewel getting married and Teyla weeping in the background. Gaaaaaaaah!

There, there.

Atlantis becomes permanently Lost In Space moving from one inhospitable planet to another, chased by the Replicators (led by Replicarter, with whom Rodney has fallen in love and given away their coordinates). Yes. We get to watch that silly flying city every week. Pleasedeargodno....

See? Don't you feel better?

How bad could it be?

This is a lot funnier than my strategy of trusting in the wisdom of the powers that be, because they can't still be making tv without some degree of rationality, right?

My strategy at the moment consists of standing cynically with my arms crossed, shaking my head. This is in contrast to what the actors are doing, which is shaking in their boots and praying at odd moments.

And see? Throughout all those scenarios the pretty remains! Everyone knows that canon heterosexuality never gets in the way of the gay! In fact (as those of us who watched Smallville know) once you add a woman in the mix, the gay gets even more gay!

Embrace it!

Afterwards, Carson appears as a ghost in Atlantis giving medical advice at key moments. Noooooooooooo!

Actually, that might be fun.

Ah, right. My priorities return to their proper position. Who cares about flying cities when you have Joe Flanigan in an ever-tighter t-shirt? *shrinks it in the wash yet again*

Ooh, this is theraputic.

*Elizabeth is banished to Earth, permitted to phone home intermittantly with folksy advice (Ghost!Carson makes special appearances just for her). John becomes Supreme Commander of Atlantis and yet is still allowed to go on missions and get kidnapped on a regular basis.

*Rodney ends up in painfully stupid love triangle with Carter and KatieBrown that serves no purpose except as a vehicle for DH's comic brilliance.

*Carter and Keller bond instantly with Atlantis staff and become BFFs with everyone; teaser of episode three is them sitting around with the rest of the senior staff in their jammies, giving each other pedicures and highlights.

*There is some sort of shocking lack of Major Lorne.

I was doing okay until I came to:

*There is some sort of shocking lack of Major Lorne.

At which point I froze up in horror.

This gives me a slight chill down my back because an interview from several months ago gave me the distinct impression that TPTB were getting fed up with the logistics hassles of booking Kavan Smith around his role on The 4400 (and I guess all the guest star roles he took on the last couple of years). I had been comforted that his status as a source of fangirl squeeing second only to David Hewlett might have been made apparent to the producers during Dragon Con, but recent word from that quarter makes me think some of them go beyond not worrying about negative fan reaction and actually court controversy.

I'm not exactly joining the Kavan Smith Estrogen Brigade yet...but I did download his episode of SG-1. Just, you know, to have it.

Ah, Major Lorne. Because every military commander of an intergalactic outpost needs a straight man.

You could always have Elizabeth languishing in a coma and her ghostly self floating about the city too. WHy stop at one ghostly presence?

This made me giggle. Thanks. I must admit, this last season has me looking for other shows to play with and go back to just watching SGA like a normal person. *shrugs*

Now why didn't I think of that?

I admit, I am shopping alternate addictions, eyeing SPN.

That's exactly where I'm at at the moment and SPN has got me hooked right in. I mainlined a season and a half in three weeks, which is fast for me to watch anything. I'm actually really enjoying the new fandom too. I can wander through people's rec lists and it's all new and I can write a different sort of fic. This may well become my first fandom switch. Though I'm sure there'll be more SGA fic to come still. :)

A cut tag would be nice, for the many, many people who haven't seen the latter half of season three and don't want to be spoiled.

Oh Christ, it's been so long since I've seen season three I forgot about the non-downloaders. *cut-tags rapidly, with full understanding given my previous feelings about the SG-1 spoilers*

he he the Carson one is unfortunately almost plausible - except they would say that the Atlantean database had downloaded his personality in the milliseconds before he died, and Atlantis was projecting his spirit as a comfort and a guide.

Actually, that could easily be a fic.

I *like* the flying city though, is so pretty and sparkly!

Rodney, turns to Sheppard: Please tell me you're having the same hallucination I'm having.

Sheppard: That a glowing Carson is standing in the hallway?

Rodney: Yes?

Sheppard: Nope.

*snorts* And you know what? None of this is as bad as some of the options that some fic comes up with. Although I'd probably still find myself watching and just shaking my head a lot.

You forgot the scenario where everyone pairs off and gets married and has children and settles down in Atlantis Lost in Space and is all about what laundry powder to use.

Sometimes when I read [livejournal.com profile] sgastoryfinders too much, I start to glaze over and think "John has Rodney's baby in an Alternate Reality and dies in childbirth. Then Rodney dies in this universe and the alternate reality Rodney is brought over to this one, bringing the kid -- hey, that sounds interesting...."

At which point I check my drink and get away from the fic before this goes too far.

Oh wait, I think I've read that story. The scary thing is that I am not kidding either. It was in a series! Even with my utter inability to read kidfic of any kind whatsoever apparently storyfinders will still lure me in an traumatise me.

Usually that is a good sign that it is past two am and I quite obviously should have been in bed four hours ago.

Until the SGA writers grow immensley in their capabilities to plot, then I shall remain optimistic and unscared. :P

Hmm. Maybe someone else was doing the same.

No, sadly I am not kidding. It was a series of stories, riffing off a kid!fic where Rodney conceives John upon John's death. Which might have been a riff off something else... and I am not going looking for it.

Yes.

I know.

I am pretty sure I am thinking it too.
