Huh? Post in Jenkin's blog on my behalf?

Someone named FANtastic has left a response in Henry Jenkins blog to remove the link to my FanLib summary. This person is obviously well-meaning, but I do not know them, and they never contacted me to ask my feelings about this.

Trust me, if I had a problem with being linked by Henry Jenkins, I would say so in no uncertain terms. I am jazzed that he linked to me. I'm a writer trying to get published and I've done some journalism, so exposure for something I've written? Is a good thing. I was once roasted for linking other people's work in public, so I'm careful about that now. But I'm not shy. My response has not appeared in Jenkins blog yet since he's at a conference:

FANtastic, I do appreciate your concern, but I am tickled pink that I was linked to Professor Jenkins' blog. In fact, I linked back to his post here in my summary.

A troll tried to attack my critical comments regarding FanLib on Mashable (comments that later became that summary) by linking to explicit fanart for one of my stories. I posted a link to the NC-17 story in question and a copy of my invitation to FanLib, suggesting they take a look at what they'd requested.

Belatedly, it occured to me that right below my summary was a series of story recommendations including NC-17 slavefic and steamy Wincest, and various links to other people who might not be too comfortable with the exposure. This morning I was sent an alarming message from several trusted friends who were as duped as I was by what turned out to be an LJ hoax concerning deleted LJ accounts. I've worked very hard to establish a readership and it would be a heavy loss for me. The hoax has been exposed* and I've locked reference to others' work. It's not a problem.

I guess we're all a little jittery at the exposure FanLib represents.

* By the way, per azurelunatic the transcript of the LJ Abuse team's reaction to the hoax ran something like this:

That's a little strange. I'm usually not completely paranoid (OK that's a lie, I am) but circumstantial evidence is building to the point where I suspect FanLib involvement.

Nah. I think this was a well-meaning person. I caused all sorts of misunderstanding with the announcements.

Why did I feel compelled to leave them in the first place? It's not like anyone cares whether I'm... anyway. It's hard to explain a panic reaction.

As a side note, I posted about this on life_wo_fanlib but I searched the FanLib forums and haven't found anyone yet complaining that the fanfic.net importer doesn't work, though it should be blocked as of three days ago.

This may just be an indication that no one cares to import their stories there, lol. Stats have been remaining pretty static.

Please we all had a panic reaction last week. It was Fanlib - then I got caught by the Urban myth that went round my f-list. I f-locked a whole ton of fic, then went back and hung it all out in the open again.

But slight panic? With such close scrutiny? I get that.

"New from the makers of Windows: WINCEST" definitely needs to be splattered on an icon, with a goofy graphic of Winchester boys emerging from the Windows, uh, windows. I'd do it right now if I wasn't in imminent danger of being mobbed by small cousins. Ah, sad.

Yeah I just saw this - and was coming back to ask if you knew. What is mildly disturbing (imho) in terms of the trouble you took to leave comms last week (and I only know this b/c I was clicking around on your blog and one of the things I often do - seeking out interesting LJ's is to surf other people's friends pgs) is that this well meaning person has linked to the comms you unsubbed from.

Which really, interms of flying below the radar... well - not what I'd think was such a bright move.

Okay, maybe pornish_pixies wasn't one of the groups Fantastic named - I could be wrong for which I apologise, thing is a couple of fan-comms have apparently just been suspended.

I thought it was interesting that one of them had been outed by Fantastic over on Henry Jenkins' blog.

Mind you SN_slash seems safe as houses, so maybe it's utterly unrelated.

Here's what I've learned so far. Apparently a number of journals with pedophilia listed in their interests were deleted. A number of those were journals for fictional RPG characters. Someone put the point to a post about it in femmequixotic's LJ: http://liz-marcs.livejournal.com/266024.html

If it were just pornish_pixies and not all those RPG journals, I would say it's FanLib, because Pornish was one of the comms. The person who posted (who was probably with FanLib) had no percentage in deleting those comms since the goal was to prevent my summary from getting linked to elsewhere.

By the way, I have not been able to post or clear this up in Professor Jenkins' journal.

I took this person to be well-meaning (if stupid). Then I got trolled by someone in one of those comms who was trying to spin it as negatively as they could. I thought, hmm, now where have I seen spin before... and decided FANtastic probably wasn't so well-meaning after all. I have theories who this was, but making a big deal out of this is what the troll wanted. I locked the threads and moved on.

Since then Professor Jenkins deleted FANtastic's comment from his blog.
