Here's odd combo for you. I tried find a common thread and could only come up with "spot on characterizations" and "blazingly hot."

Where We Ought to Be by [livejournal.com profile] wojelah, John/Rodney, NC-17
Stargate Atlantis
John and Rodney, still reeling from Carson's death, go back to earth to inform Carson's mom. What follows is a compellingly real, sensitive story about how surreal and world-shaking a loss can be, and what it does to change John and Rodney's relationship. Her descriptions of the scenes, her level of detail, her canon characterization of John and Rodney... Where We Ought To Be is a satisfying and touching read.

Hurricane Jack by Shrift, Jack/Will, so very NC-17 and no apologies
Pirates of the Caribbean
Hurricane Jack is so different in fact, I considered putting it on a different page. It's hilarious and hot. Shrift nails Capt. Jack Sparrow's voice, his slightly elevated tone, his mad digressions. You will chuckle all the way through:

"Don't consider it for even a moment!"

"Pirate!" says Jack.

"Well, then consider it unconsidered!" demands Will.

Jack leans closer, Will's body a warm press at hip and leg and shoulder. "I'll consider it unconsidered if you will consider that as a pirate, it's in my very nature to consider it."

Consider it a chaser after the other story. But don't read them back to back. You might get whiplash.

I loved WWOtB; that sheer level of awkwardness is so hard to capture in writing, and the extended Beckett family win as OCs, every one of them.

And the awkwardness kept going on and on and on. I thought about adding a note about her OCs because they're exceptional.

I just read "Hurricane Jack" and I've got teartracks down both my cheeks, I laughed so hard.

His digressions... I think I might have created a monster, I wonder how, since that's a neat trick and I'd like to do it again. Hee.

Thanks for the link to Where We Ought to Be. It's a great story.

And I'm always amused when I see recs for Hurrican Jack pop up in the wake of the new Pirats movie.

LOL. I guess it's a classic. I picked it up from [livejournal.com profile] amothea who says it's the best PotC story she's ever read. (And, no, she didn't realize it was a classic either.)

Thank you so much for the rec - and the very kind words.

As someone whose mother-in-law just died, you got it right. If anything, I didn't say enough. I didn't mention how wonderful and believable the OCs were (and the dog-things!), or how scorchingly hot and inevitable the sex was, or how the show could toss this episode in (if they wanted to go the gay-sex route, which, okay, probably not) and I would believe it.

In short, good work.
