A couch.

So. We bought a couch.

Last night we planned how to get rid of the old couch.

During the day I learned the charity people who pick up couches are scheduling for September right now, so it looks like we need to rent a pick-up because there's no way that we'll fit a couch on top of [livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru's Honda Prelude (though my old Ford Tempo had been perfect for that sort of job).

Meanwhile, I need to take the upholstery fabric off because the big secret is: I never upholstered the back. It's Egyptian amphoras in cream, terracotta, and brown -- except the the back, hidden against the wall, which is still baby blue and white stripes.

So at midnight, after a day of calls and all this planning, it occured to WG.

"Uh. Shouldn't we check when the couch is being delivered? Otherwise you'll be sitting at the computer in a folding chair."

And this, my friends, is why we pay him the big bucks.

I bought a couch today, too! It's lovely and red and I'm very excited.

Mine is to be delivered in 2 1/2 weeks. It'll be pretty much the only furniture we have, besides the computer chair, 2 outdoor chairs, and a papasan.

Oh, I love papasans! They're so comfy and kitties look great on them.

Our couch is leather and exceedingly comfortable. I'm nervous about it, because it's kind of a western look (we need the swinging doors on the saloon) but we both kept going back to sit in it and just... stayed there.

You could offer your old couch on Freecycle (http://www.freecycle.org/). I've rehomed a bunch of stuff that way. You can require that whoever takes it do their own loading and hauling, if you like, so it's pretty much trouble-free.

I'll check it out. In the U-District by the University of Washington apparently this is a natural cycle. Put something on the curb and it'll be gone within minutes.

Ah, yes. Reminds me of my Berkeley days. *g*

Free on Craigslist works, too (or it did last time I wanted to get rid of a futon).

Cool. I've done that (for the futon frame, yeah, it's still kicking around the apartment).

I was going to suggest that, too :D

And I'm sure there are plenty of people who put sofas up against walls and would rather have one that looked good on display rather than being dirt-attracting pale colours....

We rented a pickup from U-Haul for a few hours. Cost us less than 40 bucks to drop the stuff off at Salvation Army.

Yep. $19.95 plus 75 cents per mile. I'm going to see if I can get some results from Craigslist and Freecycle first. Not for the couch yet, just the futon frame as a test run.

Your Mr. Icarus was smarter than Mr Winstonmom. We spent about 2 weeks sitting on the carpet and eating in our bed because he was so efficient, that he got rid of the old table and couches before getting the new ones.
Kudos to Mr Icarus
