Sunshine and 80 degree weather and blue mountains sketched a wavy line across the horizon as I snuggled next to [livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru and hung my arm over the side of the boat, trying to touch the water. We were surrounded by tourists and the blaring cocky music, hearing the tour guide announce things about Seattle that we'd more or less known for years but sounded better coming from him.

Mt. Rainier was a ghost on the horizon.

People live in floating two-story houses on Lake Union, did you know that? And someone built one with a basement where the windows look out under the water.

The rusted machines in Gasworks park were left there and dubbed "art" so that Seattle didn't have to deal with them.

Our apartment building in Capitol Hill is sitting on top of coal mines.

[livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru used to be in the world's most dangerous industry. No wonder he got more injuries fishing than fire-fighting.

And it only costs $6 and change to ride the ferry to Bainbridge island, to get out on the water under the clear blue skies again.

I think I'll do it tomorrow.

Sometimes just being out under the sun, in the wind, on the sea and sky, looking around at the pretty little city I fell in love with like a toy train set... well, a day like this feels like an afternoon of warm, playful sex. I think every bone in my body has melted into a different shape.

That sounds awesome. I would like to be able to go on a boat without ending up feeling nauseous.

It was just a little boat though, not quite low enough in the water for me to reach. Which is too bad because water on the hands feels sooooo good.

*sun drunk*

oh, *houseboats*.

I spent a couple of years as a child living on Lake Union - our house was only one story, though. I'll never forget the birthday party (I think it was when I turned 10) I had which started with all the guests canoeing to Gasworks accompanied by my dad, and being met there by my mom with pizza and cake.

thank you for inspiring my meander down memory lane.

and you should totally go on the ferry to Bainbridge tomorrow if it's still lovely out - it's such a gorgeous ride.

::sighs of wistful nostalgia::

You have "Ride the Ducks" there? They have them in Branson. My brother said if we do nothing else we must ride the Ducks across the lake and into the mountains. We can't wait.

That trip sounds lovely :) Even if I don't actually like sun and (what I assume is) heat ;) Oh, and then there would be seasickness but nothing is perfect :)

I love my city. The Northwest has such a variety of really easy, lovely things to do on your down-time -- and certainly, riding any of our many Puget Sound ferries is one of the best -- the water and the mountains are sooo pretty. Enjoy your stay!

Oops, I should have said, "Enjoy the rest of your summer," 'cuz, duh, you are living here for the while. I'm a dork. But I suppose, yeah, it's pretty easy to ramble around and feel that lovely sense that everything is new and yet comfortably familiar.

[livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru used to be a fisherman? My husband's in the Coast Guard, so he's seen first-hand how dangerous that can be. There's a lot of stress and pressure involved, too. I think people tend to think of it as relaxing and fun, but that's only if you're not doing it for a living. *g*

I did a duck boat tour in Salem, Mass. once. It was...not like that. hehe

It sounds like a lovely time, though. :-)

Seattle is a nice looking city. I haven't been out that way in a couple of years though (the in-laws are there).

Mt. Rainier is awesome. I can get a clear view of it from my father-in-law's back deck. So I've got quite a few pictures of it *g*
