Drabbles.

I can't think of anything more discouraging than staying till nine o'clock at the office to write a whole series of little sketches... and then hearing a two-syllable response from the person who requested it.

Yes, I've sketched out nine of the other drabbles, but, I dunno. I've totally lost heart for the whole project for the night. This was supposed to build inspiration, not kill it.

I think you're quite brave to write fics for other people, it's seems such an intensified relation between the writer and the audience. Many other people loved the Neville/Ron -- I did too, especially as it was from N's point-of-view and I've found him difficult to write in a distinctive way. He had a voice in that piece, and he rarely does in fanfic, I'm not even sure he does in canon.

I hope you're not too discouraged... (especially as I haven't got my Percy/Ron yet - *runs and hides*)

Thank you. I think I'm going to start with the people I know well and who have reviewed my stories in the past. I feel selfish in expecting a response, and worse for saying so. But, even when someone has done (unsolicited) fanart for one of my stories and I didn't like it, I've always made a point to find at least *something* that I liked about it, just to say thank you for the effort and time.

Even a 'gee, I was thinking of something a little less fluffy' or 'no fair! how come <lj user="mark356" got a whole page?' would be useful. Who knows? You might get another drabble out of it. I probably should have said nothing and just taken my lumps silently. But this is LiveJournal, and I tend to put my feelings out with the wash here, where normally I'd be polite and Percy-like. And just for that, I'm writing Percy/Ron next. Um. If you don't mind my being a little depressed and tired while I write it. Icarus

Insofar as I can imagine Percy/Ron at all, I think depressed and tired is probably quite reasonable.

LJ is weird that way isn't it. Anonymity rules, okay.

Surprisingly, it came out gentle and sweet. And rather sad. And somewhat comforting, too, like a warm blanket on a rainy day.

I personally don't think you're selfish for expecting more than a one-liner from someone, especially if they were the one asking for it. Every time you write (or anyone else does, for that matter) you put a little something of yourself into it, and I find it's extremely rude if they don't at least acknowledge that you spent time crafting something for them (and something good, to boot).

You're perfectly within your rights to have expected more, but sometimes people are ungrateful in fandom... I compare it to someone asking for a home cooked meal, then saying.. "McDonald's would have been better."

Don't be Percy-like.. be yourself.

... but hey, what do I know? *laughs* I tried that, and managed to get an entire sector of fandom to turn against me.

an entire sector?

Actually I'd be kind of impressed if I managed that.

Welcome back! It's good to see you around again. Sorry about that huge mess. You'll find people's memories are short. But it was smart to take a break. This is supposed to be fun.

Eep. I'm sorry about that, I was still mulling it all over and I didn't want to remain utterly silent while I mulled. I'm excited that you're doing this and impressed that you can do so much with so few words . . . Especially when my own writing tends to rambling dialogue :) But I was really interested in the fact that we see this particular pairing differently-- not that I've spent months thinking about it or anything, but I don't initially react to it as sweet, and I'd probably have written it much the way I'd write Ron and Draco, with a great deal of pressure coming from Harry's overwhelming presence as the hero, the one who does things. And I was waiting to see if I would draw any actual conclusions there. Because I think you deserve more than "that was beautiful and sweet," though it was, and we should all be lucky to do as much.

Oh thank you.

I fear you mostly got the brunt of my frustration with 'Snape Manor.' *sigh* The prologue was still fine, but I just threw away chapter one. Both had been written before OotP, and I thought I could just do some redirection... but. No. To much changed in Harry's knowledge of Dark Wizards in OotP and it took the fun out of chapter one to account for it. Snape's parts seem to be intact. It's just Harry's part of the story that needs to be -- not rewritten. Re-conceived. I thought I had it licked, but. *enormous sigh* I bet no one else in the fandom had this happen, where their premise was written by JKR before they'd posted it.

I suspect a good chunk of fandom (myself included) insures itself by posting too fast.

I have a sort of pseudo-bunny now, though: the tall, gaunt, figure with the long dark hair, stalking about the dusty mansion. Quick sarcasm. A sense this man is too big for these cold stone walls, will break them in his pacing. A jagged S scratched in a windowpane.

When do you know who it is?

When? The moment you say 'tall' and 'gaunt' in the same sentence.

I'm so grateful you liked 'In November.' I'm switching the focus, but I still sort of don't know what to do with Harry. *chuckles*

Gaunt, maybe. Tall tells you nothing. Besides, have you ever read about anyone who was short and gaunt?

The short, gaunt man walked down the street and was promptly eaten by bears.

I sort of think Harry deserves being fobbed off on Ginny so real plot can happen to Someone Else. Or at least so Neville can be horrendously embarrassed by their public displays of affection. But I have just held a long conversation about how one teaches English in an orthodox Jewish high school in which romantic love is taboo, and my sense of cosmic rightness may be skewed.

Well don't do it then. We don't want to crush your spirit or anything toots. Take the night off. Sit back and to non fanish things. *says the woman coloring fanart at 1am, la la la*

*laughs* Thank you. I did, more or less. Then worked a 12-hour day today, have another ten-hour day tomorrow. Whew.

But I wrote another drabble during lunch and polished it up when I got home.
