Stargate fans, check if your stories have been stolen, or if you see stories you recognize.

A plagiarist going by the handle Katie-baum has stolen Lenore's "101 Ways" and -- the gall is staggering -- [livejournal.com profile] fiercelydreamed's "Unidentified." The technique has been to change the names from SGA to the One Tree Hill fandom.

I missed the opportunity to roast Katie-baum over a slow flame (the review button says her story's no longer on the archive though it still appears there) but there's every chance all of her One Tree Hill stories are stories are stolen from other fandoms.

HP fans, you might want to check, too.

Where's a catapult when I need one?

Update: She's deleted everything, including her bio, changed her author name to random keyboard gibberish. Stay tuned for her to turn up under a new name. She probably won't plagiarize those two stories again, but several of her other stories were by [livejournal.com profile] bibliotech and by authors in the Killer's fandom. She had "in the works" [livejournal.com profile] frostfire_17's The Hostage Major.

FF.net readers, keep your eyes peeled for:

- The Hostage Major (really by [livejournal.com profile] frostfire_17)
- Static (a Killers fic, written by someone named [livejournal.com profile] bibliotech)
- Home Improvement (really by [livejournal.com profile] bibliotech)
- Better Than A Holocaust (really by [livejournal.com profile] bibliotech)
- A Rennaisance Man (really by [livejournal.com profile] bibliotech)
- Two Girls and a Spaceboy (really a Doctor Who/Black Books crossover written by [livejournal.com profile] doyle_sb4)
- Black Cherry Skies (a Killers fic by [livejournal.com profile] faeries_wing919)
- Life at Seventy Percent (a mix between two stories, one by [livejournal.com profile] elethoniel and one by [livejournal.com profile] faeries_wing919)

Sleuthing and links to the real fics are here.

How long do you think it'll be before she turns up again? A week? Two?

Update 2: Huh. This is weird. Katie-baum has posted a new bio:

Hi. This is Katie-baum. This profile has been entirely scrapped for the reason that most of the work posted was plagiarized. I own up to it completely and I apologize to the (actual) authors, the readers, and anyone who geniunely cared about anything I posted here. Think whatever you will of me. You have the right and basis to.

You can all PM away and air out whatever annoyance, frustration etc you may have with me. I wont be replying.

I'm guessing the multiple abuse reports have led to instant suspension. Ff.net, you're faster than I thought.

Apparently Katie-baum has been desperately deleting comments as people flame her. It still allows you to report it to Abuse, so I'm going to guess she took it down herself. Damage control.

. . . If this ends up being the same Katie-baum I went to high school with, I'm going to both die laughing and want to find her ass and give her a talking to. *blinks*

I hate when this shit happens. >:(

I've subscribed to her account for an alert. She's set it up so that she won't get her account suspended. If she comes back to this address and posts something... *slow smile*

You might already know of this comm, but if not, check it out:

Very very good resource.

Gah ... these people drive me angry. (The plaigiarists, I mean.)

Thank you. I'd heard of it and ran across it again in comments about the plagiarism.

Things just got weird. Er. Weirder. Katie-baum has posted a new bio:

Wow, that's really big of her. [/ sarcasm]

I agree wholeheartedly: O.o

I read among the sleuthing bits that she had even plagiarised her user info? How's that for insanely unoriginal? Compulsive, even? I really don't get why people would do this. I mean, sure, I've run into students who've done it for papers or other types of assignments, and clearly getting caught was the last thing on their minds, but at least they'd get a degree or diploma and possibly even a job for all their ill-gotten efforts. I love feedback and commentary as much as any other author, but how satisfying is it to get comments from people about work that isn't even your own?

*wacky wacky wacky*

URG! I'ms sorry for the people who's stories have been stolen.

Let's just hope she's not as ambitious as, er, certain other infamous fans of the multiple sockpuppet type. Such brass-plated (albeit badly tarnished) balls could send all fandom into an infinitely regressive kerfuffle loop. And that's a scary scary thing.

Hi, I'm a mod over at [livejournal.com profile] stop_plagiarism and we are currently investigating this case. Did you or anyone you know that screencaps of the stories before katie-baum removed them from ff.net? Please email me at sevvy_o[at] livejournal[dot]com

Yes (http://scribblinlenore.livejournal.com/387171.html?thread=8893795#t8893795) . [livejournal.com profile] apple_pi took screencaps. I know she got caps of [livejournal.com profile] scribblinlenore's fics. I'll bet she has caps of [livejournal.com profile] fiercelydreamed's fic as well.

*tips hat* Good luck, and thank you.

I sent you an email as well. (Er, actually, I re-read your message and realized I hadn't followed directions.)

[livejournal.com profile] apple_pi's email is apple_pi[at]livejournal. And she does use that email. I checked her website and that's where her fic reviews go. (Writers always check that one. Heh.)
