Hi, folks. Primer to the Dark Arts has been plagiarized by someone called WhereTheGobblinsGo, renamed In The Eye Of The Beholder. I wrote this in 2002.

Please inform them they should take it down.

I have screencaps and am informing the webadmin.

ETA: I've heard from the webadmin at hpfandom.net (within less than half an hour). She recognizes the stories, read them when they came out, and is contacting the site owner to either have them or the author removed.

Well. This is one way to find one of the few archives I haven't posted to. Frankly, this is the main reason why I started posting everywhere.

They seem to have plagiarized First Signs of Magic as well.

Maaaannnn....

And I thought I prevented this by posting my stories on every website I could find. I guess I fell behind the plagiarists.

Keep an eye out for WhereTheGoblinsGo's next great hit: Civil War!

Says Goblins, "It's In The Air was right for my mood at the time, but this time, I really wanted to go for the angst."

Oh, Elvis. That would almost be funny, in a twisted sort of way.

Reporter: "Wow, Civil War was a terrific hit! What's next, oh you prolific author, you?"

Goblin: "I'd like to return to my roots. Something long and plotty with a feel like the early books."

Reporter: "Can you give us a hit what it will be called?"

Goblin: "I'm thinking the Tea Series has a nice ring to it...."

Reporter: "You heard it here first!"

Thank you. I've just sent an email to the webadmin. That's my next step.

This is the second time this has happened....

People suck. SO MUCH.

ETA: Also, I sent a note to the web admin. How much does this suck? A lot. People will never grow up.

I've heard from the webadmin -- within half an hour. She recognizes the stories and is contacting the site owner. They'll either take down the stories, or the remove the author completely.

WhereTheGoblinsGo has a Polyjuice fic that I don't recognize but I'm wondering if it's also stolen.

I'm sorry, that sucks so much. :( At least it looks like the "author" will be dealt with soon. Maybe even (if I dare say it) learn a lesson or two? Well, that might be asking a bit much.

What's with all the plagiarism lately? Or are people just more actively looking for it? *stumped*

While I can totally see how plagiarism would piss people off, I don't know how I would react if I found out someone ever plagiarized me. I think my initial reaction would be something along the lines of, "Dude... seriously? You couldn't find (or, dread the thought, write) something better?" And then that would quickly be followed by, "Why? It's not like I'm getting paid, or doing this for a degree or something. You're copying my hobby... this is like looking at someone's stamp collection and deciding to set up an identical collection in exactly the same way. In fact, plagiarizing fanfic has got to be one of the saddest, most pathetic things under the sun."

Only after my bewilderment faded (which might take anywhere from an hour to a year) could I even contemplate a jihad.

This is the second time I've been plagiarised. That I know of. The first was a Percy story called Skinny Dipping (http://www.icarus.slashcity.net/stories/skinnydipping.html).

That one made more sense to me. Popular author, lesser known story, minor character. Plagiarising Primer to the Dark Arts... that's my most well-known story. Maybe she's hoping people have forgotten it since 2002-?

It's happened to me before. What I find, well, embarrassing are the reviews the plagiarists get. The readers pour out their praise for a story with no knowledge they've been suckered.
