How to capture a video. No, I'm asking.

I would like to capture a streaming video file that plays in a pop-up window from an online site.

For YouTube I use "Keep Vid" but this site doesn't have a URL for me to try that.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I don't know if this'll work for you but I thought I'd mention it:
RealPlayer's latest free version has a handy thing that will download most online videos. I use it for youtube all the time. It might be worth a try?

okay. I know it works on youtube, so you might just try there to make sure. You just hover your mouse over the video and a little thing pops up offering to download

Okay, there must be a setting for this because it's not offering to download on YouTube. Any ideas?

I have RealPlayer version 11
If you open RealPlayer and go to Tools >>Preferences >> Downloads and Recording (at the bottom of the list). Is it enabled?

Aha! I have version 10.5. One moment -- I'm downloading the latest version. I thought I had it but I was wrong.

it also says you have to restart your browser for the program to do its thing.

I use Firefox's Download Helper to capture the flv then convert it using Media Converter, a free thing (yeah, it's late) that's not downloaded; just google it for the url. If you don't have Firefox, I'm stumped like a stumpy thing.

Oh. Wait. This streaming site won't play in Firefox and their tech support people couldn't get it to do so. I have to either open it in IE or (now) in RealPlayer.

I think they have it pop up this way to prevent people from copying it. So it's going to require a creative solution. Hmm....

Since your tag is for skating, I think I know the site you're asking about.
In order to get the video to play in firefox, you have to download a media player plugin. Try this link: http://port25.technet.com/pages/windows-media-player-firefox-plugin-download.aspx

I had the same problem as you for firefox. But downloading a plugin solved it.

This is just delightful. I'm watching videos of the Sectionals. It's so marvelous to see the skaters who get that far but will never make it to Nationals. But once next season begins they'll probably make the older videos unavailable, and I want to show my favorites in a locked file on LJ.

It's too bad they lock it. I wanted to watch the sectional videos from last season. But I read that they might be in negotiation to archive the old videos on to youtube. It might never happen, but I hope they can get a deal of some kind.

LOL, for Ronon are you talking about Rohene Ward? The physical looks are there, but he doesn't move right.

Yep, Rohene Ward. He doesn't move like Ronon, but man, he looks like him. I think that it's good he doesn't move like Ronon because, uh, I can't picture Ronon doing the splits on the ice. Not intentionally anyway.

We like Braden Overett, too. wildernesguru loved Jonathan Cassar's short program, was very impressed with his sense of timing with the music. I really enjoyed Derick Delmore, too. wildernessguru struggles with watching these guys. He loves the tight butts, but when they fall, his empathy for the skater goes through the roof -- he can't take it! "Beam me up, Scotty," he says.

I explain over and over that a fall on a tough jump is a mandatory one point deduction but it's not the end of the world.

I love Braden Overett's program. The straight line footwork for his pirate program is Captain Jack in all his drunken fey glory. I know he's working as a choreographer, and choreographs his own programs.

Derick Delmore was a bit of a surprise, since he was saying he's going to retire at last year's nationals.

I think Delmore proves it's not a sport, it's an addiction. He has such a great sense of humor.

Braden Overett choreographed that himself? Now I'm truly impressed.

I liked Viktor Pfiefer's long balletic lines and arrogance. Boy, he makes you wait for his program every single time. I was disappointed that we weren't going to see Jason Wong at Nationals. Such a fluid and expansive upper body. I find Parker Pennington bo-ring.

Shaun Rogers is a blast to watch. His jumps are HUGE.
