I am totally exhausted after my midterm. I may be delayed on the story I planned to write for [livejournal.com profile] 14valentines (since I just woke up on the couch -- and I was supposed to be writing).

Instead, let's have some fan art for Tanlines & Dogtags by [livejournal.com profile] miso_no_tsuki. That's appropriate for Art and Athletics, right?

Story: Tanlines & Dogtags
Story Author: Icarus
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Sheppard/Lorne (sort of), Sheppard/McKay (implied pre-slash)
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] miso_no_tsuki
Artwork rating: I'd call it a hot R for nudity.
Deviant art account here feed the artist: What Lorne saw in his viewscreen.
For: [livejournal.com profile] 14valentines Arts and Athletics.

Snippet:
Lorne had explained that early evening and dusk was the best time for photography, the shadows more distinct, colors richer from the warmth of the setting sun. It didn't take any convincing to get John to stretch out on the dark sand -- away from the Athosian blanket, thank god -- and continue the conversation in front of the camera, the gold sunlight sculpting muscles as he stretched his hands playfully behind his head with a twitch of his eyebrow and a confident smile. The smooth wash of water on a much broader beach behind him.

P.S. There is apparently an inside joke in the settings on Lorne's camera, but it takes a photographer to get it. Mona-?

ETA: Aha! Apparently those light settings are impossible, but deliberately in the shape of Atlantis.

That is just beautiful. It just, with the moon and the sun and Atlantis and the water and the reflections and John. Beautiful.

Isn't she marvelous? I realized I linked to the wrong piece, so I have them both here now. But her original, with Atlantis in the background, is my favorite.

They really are marvelous. And yeah, I got very confused for a minute when I posted my comment and then the picture changed! I figured I hadn't been imagining Atlantis, the moon and the lack of camera settings, but these days you never know...

Now I have them both up. :)

That is a lovely picture, but... any chance of putting it behind a cut? Or posting a smaller version? It's mucking up my friends page like crazy. Thanks!

Oh sure. I was wondering about that. I'd checked it and it didn't muck up my f-list, but that's because I have a placeholder that appears instead.

Ah, now I have a little one outside the cut. That should work. *g*

I'll send the praise along to [livejournal.com profile] miso_no_tsuki. Everything about this drawing... the way John's head's tipped back, the hint of frontal nudity, the sensuality of the scene. I particularly love the bright sparkles off the water, in your eyes, brighter than John, the way he's backlit. It suggests that this is something you're not supposed to see.

[livejournal.com profile] miso_no_tsuki's a wonderful artist. My only real comment is: Uh. Oh, man.

I should probably make it the header on the story, eh?

Happy Valentines Day to US, Icarus. *ggg*

(And ack, not getting the camera joke--I have taken pics with other folks' expensive cameras, but I've never been able to afford one myself, so these settings, except ISO of course, mean nothing to me.)

[livejournal.com profile] miso_no_tsuki explains that those light settings in the lower left hand corner are completely impossible, but set that way to mimic the shape of Atlantis (so that Atlantis appears in both pictures). I like it.

I could just stare at that image of Sheppard.

Happy Valentine's Day! *g*
Thank you so much for posting this and being so nice about it. Of course I had to stare at photos of male nudes for *hours* till I found one that looked about right, (body-wise for Shep) so I suffer for my art.*snorks*
BTW; the in-joke isn't that hard -the light meter histogram is wildly improbable for those conditions ...but you might see the silhouette of a certain city in there!

You're a marvelous artist and I want more. Can I open the door for you? Hold your coat?

I think I've figured it out.

I think that fan art doesn't get as many comments as fanfic because the viewer doesn't invest as much time into it. A fanfic, people will spend hours reading (all night if it's a long one) while with fan art the viewer consumes it whole in one instant (or, in the case of this piece, minutes of long, steady gazing, until you realize you've fixated on that tantalizing hint of John Sheppard's cock, and shake yourself).

This is so beautiful. You make me want to paint.

As much as I love "Out of Bounds", I think "Tanlines and Dogtags" is my favorite of your stories. Thanks for posting links to the cover art!
