I played it for wildernessguru. Then asked what he thought.

"Incredible." He paused for a moment. "He'd make a great president."

He asked me what I thought.

I said, "He sees the complexities of an issue. And I agree with you. He will make a great president." I paused for a moment. "He's not out for himself."

OMG. That's incredible. His speech is so powerful just on the internet. I can't imagine him in person.

It's not just empty charisma but a capacity to see an issue from all sides--and express that understanding.

How will it translate into action? I don't know. But I'd like to give him the chance.

I was thinking that we have two good candidates, an embarrassment of riches, so I was okay with either one--but Clinton would be the better president. Now, I don't think we have anyone like him.

If Clinton is the nominee Wesley Clark will be the VP Candidate , and I have it form a primary source. If Bam becomes the nominee, I hope it will be Edwards. I will still vote for Edwards

I heard this on the national radio news tonight on CBC -- very impressive. Articulate, inspiring, and hopeful.

(I have otherwise managed to remain mostly blissfully unaware of what's happening in your silly season -- I believe in the democratic process but I find American politics painfully painful to have to listen to. ;-) )

I'm not saying he won't- I just think that the majority of people in this country won't vote for him...

Anything's possible. McCain has said that his viability depends on convincing people that Iraq was a good idea. He's right, and that's a hard sell. He has an additional problem in that he's off the map of his party's politics, so they're constantly reining him in. It's resulted in him contradicting himself left and right.

The real question is whether Obama will be our democratic candidate. With the Michigan primary revote floundering it seems it will be up to the superdelegates.

This was an amazing speech! I've only read the transcript, not seen the video, but I was impressed beyond measure, in tears, too! I linked to the transcript on my LJ and hope everyone will understand what kind of quality we're being offered, here, for a change!

That's exactly what I liked about him when he was an Illinois state senator--he doesn't come up with pat answers. I think it hurts him, though, because he doesn't always translate well into sound bites.

That's what I always liked about him -- not only that he understands the complexities (which I think all three remaining candidates certainly do), but also that he trusts the American people enough to understand him when he addresses complex issues. I always hate it when I feel like a candidate is speaking down to me, dumbing down language or concepts in a way that creates the impression that they feel they have to be careful so as not to confuse the voters. And I've never seen a 37-minute speech that felt so short. Thanks for providing the link.
