There's an LJ boycott going on Friday. I'm sure you've heard, but I thought I'd mention it.

I'll still blog. It'll just be in IJ (shudder) and JF.

I'm boycotting because this guy's contemptuous attitude annoys me.

ETA: The boycott is Friday, right? That'll be hilarious if I get the day wrong.

I thought about boycotting but seriously, why bother? All that is going to happen is that nothing happens. We can send as many messages as we want to to the higher ups, but for each one of us, there are hundreds of others that would happily sign up for the service.

It's sort of like boycotting Exxon. Great in theory, but ultimately not going to do a damned bit of good.

I have an account at http://www.journalfen.com. You can get an invite if you know someone on there, I believe. Like... me.

I also have an http://www.greatestjournal.com but I don't like that site so much.

I guess my memory is hazy, but I recall a list of people who gave their InsaneJournal and Greatest Journal usernames so that people from LJ can find them and friend them when they create their own backup journals on IJ or GJ.

Someone else on my f-list pointed out that the problem with a boycott is that it will be limited to fandom and maybe related subsets of their users, and they really do want us gone. It's not much of a threat if it's exactly what they want.

Not to mention that the boycott is scheduled for Good Friday, which is a travel day for a lot of people, and that between travel on Friday and the Easter weekend (which is very much a family time), a considerable drop-off in posting would be expected anyway.

It might be worth giving the *other* translation and commentary a read. The difference in tone is pretty marked, and a good reminder that any text, in translation, depends on the translator to capture nuance.

Make it a fourth Russian. I read the original and the contempt oozes. Nosik is an arrogant arse, and I for one have options ( such as IJ) where I will not be dismissed and condescended to.
