My actual question for painless_j was "what do you consider canon for Harry Potter fanfic?" This was her answer for Harry/Snape. (Sigh. Sometimes Primer to the Dark Arts is included in the canon and sometimes it isn't.) But when I posted it I didn't want to make that claim to canon. :)
