I'm sure you've noticed the upswing in LJ spam. Not advertising spam, but prank spam. Odd messages that have nothing to do with your post, or you.

As part of the effort to get rid of these guys (good to know you can spray for spammers) various people on my f-list have been publicly announcing any spammers they encounter. Here you go:

Make a point of going to your console and banning hayleey72, who is posting Brittney Spears spam comments.

This has been a public service announcement.

I got rid of my spammer by posting bad capslock porn (http://ifyouweremine.livejournal.com/119290.html?thread=1315066#t1315066) for them, that seemed to work well. But your way seems less time-consuming. ^___~

What's odd is, they all have the same birthdate: 3/10/80. I wish we could just ban everyone with that in their info.

Yes, looks like it. I've seen about half a dozen, mostly of the form 'name+two digits', and all of 'them' with that birthdate, and all posting Britney Spears porn video links. *sigh*

I expect more of this, as the "explore" feature and the even newer LJ Dashboard get more notice. It's now very easy to find "interesting" posts by total strangers and do a drive-by comment, with no intention of returning.

You can opt out of the Explore feature; no idea if that also covers the Dashboard thing.

It'll be even more fun when the "random user" link is added to the nav bar.

My choices relative to the new invasive measures:

UNSELECT: Graphic previews (a.k.a. Snap.com hovers)
SELECT: Explore Area Exclusion (right below "search inclusion" to opt out of google.)
Virtual Gifts: Disable all (I don't want ads disguised as "virtual gifts," and I don't want people giving money to LJ on my behalf.)

Adult content: No adult content
Viewing Adult Content: Do not collapse
Safe Search Filtering: Do not filter my results

I have no idea if opting out of Explore also opts out of the Dashboard.
