Guys, I finally figured out that the reason why I couldn't upload my recordings was because I had .wav files instead of smaller .mp3s. Aaaah... that's solveable.

Fic Title: First Signs of Magic: Hermione Granger
Author: Icarus
As read by: Icarus
Duration: 23.5 minutes
File type: .mp3
Summary: Dr. and Dr. Granger have a perfectly ordinary evening, when something very odd occurs. What do they do? "As a family, they made the decision to panic."

Podcast: First Signs of Magic: Hermione Granger

I picked this story because it's the only one of mine that I thought my voice fit.

Veni, thank you. The mic works great.

I don't know, I have a very feminine voice. I'm not sure it would work for stories written from a man's perspective.

Every single podfic I've heard has been read by a woman, and nearly all of them have been written in a male character's POV; male characters have also had the majority of the dialog. After the first few minutes of the first story I listened to, I didn't even notice it any more.

I've also heard a number of audiobooks or short stories read aloud, and the narrator's gender has never been a problem for me, regardless of the text.

Just my opinion and experience, but for what it's worth, there 'tis.

Okay... I'm thinking about it. I'm also asking [livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru if he'd like to read Necromancy for the Living. It might be too long for him to read.

Do you have any requests, if there's something short that you'd like read? He won't do NC-17. (Too embarrassing.)

Ooo, it's cool to hear your voice. It seems to me that you have an accent of some sort . . . am I right?

I don't know. What sort of accent do you mean? *g* I suppose everyone has some kind of accent. Mine's a hybrid of Michigan and Washington, D.C.

Hmmm, I don't know. When you say certain words . . . although it doesn't seem like a MI accent to me. I don't know anything about D.C. accents. Haha, maybe I'm just hearing weird things.

No, I have a weird accent. People in MI have asked me what country I'm from! And these are people in my old neighborhood.

It started when I got back from a couple months as an exchange student in Germany....

Interesting . . . only a couple of months.

Bearing mind that I first started learning German when I was six.

*shrugs*

O, I see. Yea, maybe you have some residual German accents.

I'm thinking it's an unrecognizable, unplaceable hybrid mutt of an accent. Though I could have sworn that I sound more "D.C." than anything else.

Oh, man, I am so excited! I will listen to this tomorrow at lunch.

In related news, it is delighfully subversive to listen to slash while I talk to my boss on break at work.

Heh. Though I'm afraid this isn't one of my slash stories.

So people really listen to these-? *g*

Okay, so I didn't get around to listening to it at lunch (*checks date*) two weeks ago, but I did listen to it just now. You have this voice where I just want to give you a cookie and a puppy. Maybe two cookies. I just loved it, both the story and your reading of it. And I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed that they'd made the decision to panic as a family, rather than each independently.

I've downloaded, haven't listened yet. But are you aware you can make a far smaller .mp3 file by setting the bit rate to 32 rather than 128? Voice doesn't require nearly the "resolution" of music.

No, I had no idea, thank you.
