Is SGA skating fic a genre?

I dangled bizarre AUs in front of copperbadge, enjoying his squeals of pain. Then I was told there were even more figure skating AUs than I knew. (I thought there were three.)

Really? Tell me more.

Turns out we have:

1) The Cutting Edge by greenconverses. A John/Teyla mostly Gen rewrite of the movie The Cutting Edge, with Rodney as coach (a movie I won't see until after I've finished my billion-page skating fic).
2) Out Of Bounds, which is my own. John/Rodney with John as an almost over-the-hill skater and Rodney as coach and former teen skating star who washed out of the Olympics.
3) Canada Likes It On Top by busaikko. Not technically a skating AU but rather a fic where John and Rodney go skating. John can't skate at all.
4) Broomstacking by notpoetry. John's a figure skater and Rodney's a... something... in curling.
5) A Dream by theladyofshadow. Radek is an ex-figure skater.
6) Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (2010) by sardonicsmiley. John's a figure skater and Rodney's a hockey player.

If we include hockey AUs:
7) Stanley Is Just A Cup by Mystic
8) Playing The Body by aesc

9) And last but not least... we have Evan Lysacek in Atlantis! Stargate: Midwestern Section by lannamichaels (who is certifiable)

OMG, thanks for these links. What fun!

And don't stress about not seeing the Cutting Edge. Go ahead and see it if you want. Believe me, it has NOTHING TO DO with the realities of figure skating. Not even kind of.

Although I like the film. DB Sweeney is cute. And my husband had a huge crush on Moira Kelley when he was young.

I've actually written two figure skating stories in another fandom, and right now I'm writing a ballroom dancing AU in SGA. So yeah, maybe it's kind of its own eensy weensy subgenre.

I just saw The Cutting Edge this weekend. I'm pretty sure that it's not going to Disturb The Force, or anything in re: OOB. I found it *very* charming, and I finally had the AHA moment that I've been ruminating on for years. Ben Browder completely pinged me; I couldn't figure out who he looked like (and it wasn't Shanks). It's D.B. Sweeney. That same smirky expression, the hair, the pale eyes, the body type. Man, am I glad to have that cleared up!

Always glad to have one more AU--hadn't seen that one with Lysacek.
