Democratic Fic Recs and Cut-Tags

Helllo, friends list.

At least one person has asked me to use a cut-tag for these recs when I put them up. I respected that and did so. Then another asked 'do we have to?'

Hmm.

Now it is standard to not use cut-tags for recs, but I did put up three looooooong posts of them in one day. I'd also rather not use the cut-tag (it sort of defeats the purpose of recs), but I'd also rather not annoy my friends.

I'll tell you what. If I promise not to post more than one of these per day, can we avoid throwing down the gauntlet and challenging me to a duel? Waddya say?

You know I swallow practically anything - though I love H/D, and of course I need my regular dose of Snarry love...

I've never written H/D, actually. It feels like, I dunno, overworked soil. Like it needs a rest.

Hmm. I'm still sick, and late to work. But I'll see what I can do. It's hard to refuse a shameless request. ;)

It certainly won't bother me if you don't use cut tags. Three posts in one day doesn't hit *my* tolerance limit for multi-posting from one person, and I also didn't think the rec lists were all that long that they required cutting.

If the person who requested the cut-tag had signed their post (obviously they have an LJ and I'm on their friends list -- or was on it, LOL), I'd continue to honour the request. If they respond here, signed, I'd do it. But if all I hear is people wanting to see the recs, then I'm going to continue, without cut-tags.

Recs are usually not cut. That's what I'm thinking. But I'm also thinking to not put as many up at a time either.

Well, for some, it might be annoying to have your friend's list all recs, but some might appreciate it. Spaced out rec posts would be a good compromise between them.

i don't mind scrolling a little, so no cut tag is fine by me. i've found several rewarding reads on these rec lists! thanks.

Don't bother with the cut tag unless it's like a mile long. Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

If someone can give me a legitimate reason to cut, I will. And not as an anonymous post, not when I know they must have an LJ somewhere. Gives me no means to negotiate or find out why or work it out.

I was trying so hard to find a picture of the little girl from Airplane! who says of her coffee, "No, thank you, I take it black. Like my men," to use as a background picture! Couldn't, so, this instead.

Hee, that's funnier than Voltaire who said something like he took his coffee and chocolate 'as black as the devil's arse.'

Didn't another girl say something in Airplane about 'I've never done this before ... this is my first time' to every guy she hooked up with on the troubled plane? And there was a line of them, waiting to be with her?

My main memory of that film is a Saturday Night Live parody on the dance floor, and this hilarioussly camp guy running around, who had a really distinctive voice.

The stewardess couldn't understand two black men speaking 'Jive talk' (this was in the black power days mind), and a much older Mrs.-Brady-from-the-Brady-Bunch volunteers translation services and winds up telling them off - "cut me slack, jack! You don' know nuthin' nohow."

I loved the girl scouts in the Saturday Night Fever scene! Obviously the writers based it on my old scout troop.

Oh, and the 'From Here To Eternity' parody!

There is that scene where the one lady is panicking, and when the attendant shakes her to get her to calm down, the doctor says, "Let me handle this," and HE starts slapping her viciously, and you pan down the aisle and there are people waiting in line with tire irons, guns, etc...

What the hell is that website which was essentially a dictionary of gay sex terms, with pictures? I remember an activity that only uncircumcised men could engage in because it required a sort of frottage under the foreskin...I've completely lost the link and the name of the activity.

TMI? *wink* You've read my sex-scenes. (As I have yours. Although I love consensual BDSM, I'm not a big fan of heavy non-con. Rushlight's 'Through a Shattered Mirror' is about as far as I will go. Even in Beg Me For It, the non-con is mutual, and the boys worked around it.)

Where do you think I get my info? From Wilderness Guru's personal experience, LOL! (Especially 'Far Too Personal.') He loves going through my story and picking out the familiar bits. I use a physical description of him for Snape's physique in 'Primer to the Dark Arts' and WG loved it.

That said, if you find that website, let me know. I have read about what you're describing. Apparently you can bury the head of another man's dick in the foreskin (once it's been reasonably stretched of course).

I'll read your posts and love them whatever you do, but I beg you and everyone else to consider the cut for any post over 3 paragraphs. Those of us (or am I the only one?) who have to pay for our net time in dodgy cafes with slow connections need to be able to flick through our friends posts quickly to work out which ones we have time to read in full.

And, cut or uncut, please don't limit yourself to only one post a day!! Your recs are a goldmine for me and I'd hate to lose them.

mark356 pointed out a very good reason cut tags would a problem for him. So, here's what I'm going to do. It's not the rec that's taking up the space, it's the looooong summaries. So I'll cut-tag summaries if they make the post excessively long.

I know HTML, XML, Flash and CSS.

Yet I cannot figure out a LJ cut-tag.

If you leave a recs post uncut, I don't need to open up the comments page on your calendar (which is how I've linked to this project on my sidebar) in order to get to the fic. However, each post is about six hours of reading, so more than one or two a day is sort of frightening, whether they're cut or not.

For general posts, my rule is that if I have to scroll down twice or more, cut it, although I admit that I'm most comfortable when I can cut my posts to one screenful or less. Notable exceptions include very important rants that you want everyone to read. However, for these recs posts, I don't mind them uncut at all, for the reasons I've already given.

Oh, now this is a very good reason not to cut them.

I think I'll not cut, but see to it that these are one scroll or less. I may cut long summaries to accomplish this.
