Democratic Fic Recs and Cut-Tags

Helllo, friends list.

At least one person has asked me to use a cut-tag for these recs when I put them up. I respected that and did so. Then another asked 'do we have to?'

Hmm.

Now it is standard to not use cut-tags for recs, but I did put up three looooooong posts of them in one day. I'd also rather not use the cut-tag (it sort of defeats the purpose of recs), but I'd also rather not annoy my friends.

I'll tell you what. If I promise not to post more than one of these per day, can we avoid throwing down the gauntlet and challenging me to a duel? Waddya say?

I'll read your posts and love them whatever you do, but I beg you and everyone else to consider the cut for any post over 3 paragraphs. Those of us (or am I the only one?) who have to pay for our net time in dodgy cafes with slow connections need to be able to flick through our friends posts quickly to work out which ones we have time to read in full.

And, cut or uncut, please don't limit yourself to only one post a day!! Your recs are a goldmine for me and I'd hate to lose them.

Well, mark356 pointed out a very good reason cut tags would a problem for him. So, here's what I'm going to do. It's not the rec that's taking up the space, it's the looooong summaries. So I'll cut-tag summaries if they make the post excessively long.

OK, I understand that, but *how* doth one make a cut? I've tried reading LJ's instructions. Hah, hah.

I know HTML, XML, Flash and CSS.

Yet I cannot figure out a LJ cut-tag.

Ah! I so loved finally figuring this out. I'll put a space between each letter, and use an asterix for the blanks.
