In the market for a new show?

[livejournal.com profile] 20thcenturyvole pimps the new Merlin most effectively.

There are several reasons why you should be watching this show. It's a hella fun take on Arthurian legend which, like Robin Hood, is an attempt by the BBC to fill the Doctor Who slot and please the same target audience - but unlike Robin Hood, Merlin actually rocks. It has an awesome cast, including John Hurt as a dragon - yes, the smug-looking one in my icon - and Anthony Stewart Head as Uther Pendragon. And, only four episodes into the first season, it has an epic slash quotient only comparable to Smallville - except, as I said before, it actually rocks.

Intrigued yet? Not on dial-up? Hooray!

It was the word "Prague" that caught my eye.

Now working on another scene of Out Of Bounds. Rolling right along, rolling, rolling, rolling.

After mamoru22 made the first pimp vid (http://mamoru22.livejournal.com/64868.html?style=mine), I broke down and d'loaded...and I'm very much enjoying it!!! As are my boys, so yes, definitely the DW crowd (or maybe even the SJA one).

Though, I might have enjoyed the above quote more if it hadn't required dissing other shows to pimp Merlin (bc I've been calling it Smallville in Camelot in my mind exactly because it's as marvelous as SV was for me that first season :)

Merlin does totally rock. I have the biggest crush on Arthur, Merlin is adorable and the slashyness is quite ridiculously strong.

I want to take Merlin home. WG, on the other hand, thinks Arthur is hot.

(And he too noted the slashiness from the very first ep.)

Totally watch it -- it's pretty good even if they're kinda messing with Athurian legend. I'm still trying to figure out if Morgana and Arthur are related or if that's going to be some crazy secret that they're going to spring on us later.

And yes, watching that show just makes you see the Arthur/Melin potential, even from the first episode. I'm currently on the look out for awesome fics at [livejournal.com profile] merlinslash but so far no luck. All there are so far are drabbles and I could kill for something more substantial.

Well, we must do something about that, eh? Five episodes in is very early for a fresh, shiny new fandom.

I've been watching Merlin and giggling at it - especially the slashiness! - since it started. Definitely not a close match-up to the legend, but they do promote it, I think, as a 're-interpretation', so... So far, Arthur is lusting after Morgana, who is Uther's ward; Merlin is taking absolutely no notice of Gwen/Guenevere; Gwen is lusting after Lancelot and vice versa; and the slash potential for all three men is simply overwhelming.

It will also appear - when you get to episode 4 - that Uther has probable backstory with Nimueh. *G*

As I say - not close to the legend, but they're leaving loads of intriguing loose ends all over the place, and I'm hoping at least some of them will get happily tied up.

What's fun is I'm taking a class on Arthurian legend right now. So I know just how flexible that legend is. It seems that Merlin is drawing more from the French Marie de France legends (which have Arthur as a brutish fool and are the original source of the Guinevere story).

Merlin is hilarious and completely awesome. Help to be more awesome by being on straight after Strictly Come Dancing so Saturday night has the best TV of the week on now.

I discovered them on LJ last Christmas during a massive Xmas music share and love them.

I actually have about 40 pages of Out Of Bounds to post soon, but there has been this "hinge" or "lynch pin" scene that's been giving me a spot of trouble.
