Hey-la.

Do you like figure skating?

Would you like a free ticket to a major figure skating event that WG cannot attend?

By which I mean Skate America.

By which I mean you get to see Evan Lysacek and Johnny Weir and some of the top skaters in the world do their artistic/fun exhibition programs this weekend.

By which I mean that I will pick you up and drive up to Everett for a fun evening of figure skating and frisbees, for an event that's very nearly sold out.

I've talked to scribbling_elf (who's not sure about her interest in figure skating per se). I hate to see this ticket go to waste since it's unlikely I'd be able to sell a single ticket on Ebay (people buy tickets in pairs).

And, frankly, I'd much rather take one of you guys.

It's going to be a total blast. And there's always next year. I believe, hmm, in 2009 the Four Continents is going to be held in Vancouver, and Nationals will be held in Spokane in 2010.

Wow. I didn't know there was that much skating going on in our neck of the woods. I guess the Pacfic Northwest makes sense as a place to have skating, but I never really thought about it (then again, I never really left Seattle much before...) I'll probably look into future years, that sounds like a lot of fun! I hope you guys have an awesome time!

The Olympics are coming in 2010 to Vancouver, so it's one of the requirements to have a test-run in the same locale. That's the reason for having the Four Continents in 2009.

The others, well, the Nationals were quite successful in Spokane 2006, with a higher turn out than St. Paul 2007. I suspect the organizers want to build up and build on Olympic enthusiasm. *g*

That's so cool, and makes a lot of sense. One of my friends was considering going to school in BC because she'd be there for the Olympics, it's one of the reasons I'm sad I didn't go local. Still, hopefully I should be around for the Olympics anyways! (break and all that I'm hoping).
I never thought of Spokane as much of a happenin' place, but that's just Seattle mentality for you. Is it surprising that there was more interest than in St. Paul? or am I just out of the loop. Either way that's pretty darn neat!

Oh yeah, that's right. You guys went to Skate America together last year, didn't you? I'm a little jealous you got to see Takahashi. *g*

They're setting Skate America sales records this year. They're also doing this freeskate Sunday morning where you sign up at 7:30am, they do a little lesson, and you can step on with some of the athletes.

I don't think I'll be doing it, not when the last time I skated was 1982. Though I am tempted.
