Only 3% of the precincts are reporting in, but how is the possible? Virginia is currently more red than I expected, while Florida is on the fence, shading blue.
My brother (two years younger than me, lives in Alaska) says the only Democrat he ever voted for was Palin's democratic opponent, and he switched from McCain to Obama when McCain picked Palin.
She thought there were far better women he could have chosen, and dislikes her strong anti- Roe vs Wade policies. I'm not sure other than that, we tend not to talk politics since my mom is has grown more...conservative...in recent years.
I was pretty damn sure she was going to disown me for being Bi before I finally came out to her. Though she still thinks I'm going to 'get over it'.
Am in Texas (but not from Texas). 538 was projecting 10% in Texas for Obama, so I'm quite sure there's no way it will win, but if there's a larger percentage than that (and it seems there might be, specifically in urban areas) *AND* most importantly if local Democrats can start staging a comeback, especially on the legislative level (HOPE HOPE HOPE HOPE), then I'll be happy.
Looking at the NYT's map, it's because they've counted Dallas and Houston and Austin first. So it'll even out soon enough. Good while it lasted, though.
My Texan cousin is sitting in my living room right now. He's still upset that he switched his voter registration from Texas to New York. It will almost certainly go to McCain, but I'm encouraged by such a high Democratic turnout in traditionally Republican territory.
