Amazing. The fact that Obama has included funding for schools in the stimulus plan has come under fire from the GOP.

What they don't seem to get is that in the current mortgage crisis, property values are plummeting.

What pays for schools?

Property taxes.

Yes, we need funding for schools in a stimulus bill. Otherwise this country will take a long-term hit. One of the reasons our jobs are going to India is that India invested heavily in education. Especially in science in technology.

It's a fairly obvious ploy by the Republicans to regain their popularity, yes? Fortunately, we shall see through them and work to fund education over the mass protests of the people!!"

LOL.

But if the GOP paid for education, who would flip their burgers and clean their mansions?

Illegal immigrants from Mexico...

And, and, who would make up the rank and file of their membership when the really, really rich old people died?

Well, I haven't seen that (news is really not high on my priorities at the moment - it cycles), but really, what political party could go wrong by opposing funding for education? It's a fairly obvious ploy by the Republicans to regain their popularity, yes? Fortunately, we shall see through them and work to fund education over the mass protests of the people!!

I would think that the extra funding in education would eventually mean smarter people who eventually help run this country in the future . . . apparently GOP is against smart people joining their ranks?

It seems the Republicans don't want more people joining their ranks. Not in actuality. That would mean they'd have to share. A lot of Republicans support the "trickle down" theory of economics, which says that:

"Hey, if I get massively rich, then I might tip the waiter a dime of that. So my getting massively rich benefits the waiter."

This ignores the fact that the blue collar worker at the next table tipped the waiter $5.78, because he's been a waiter.

It's too bad the Republicans don't want more joining their ranks because they can be incredibly useful. Here in Boston there are almost no Republicans left, so all the fat cats have to be Democrats, poor things. And it's a real problem trying to find someone else to blame for our stupidity and racism - we might have to ask for a bailout on this.

Yeah, that is not the line in the sand I'd have drawn if I were now the minority party. Do they really think that vote isn't going to come back and bite them in the ass when their seats come up for re-election?

I don't know if it boils down to spiteful opposition, or "If we fund education, where will we get the uneducated rabble that we can easily lead by playing on their fears and prejudice?!?"
