Amazon Rank

Explanation here.

I want Amazon.com, this Monday morning, to have a meeting. In that meeting I want them to address this utter mess. By the end of this meeting, I want them to restore the ranks to every GLBT book on all their sites--yes, all of them.

By 10am, I want a press release where Amazon says, "We're aware of the problem and we're fixing it. This is a mistake. Amazon.com does not believe in censorship in any form." Then they can henceforth tell conservative complainers to go hang.

I sent an email expressing my dismay. I've given them a good bit of my money over the years...but I won't now until they do some serious backtracking.

Word. I'm sure it was a mostly-dumb mistake by someone who hasn't been at work since Wednesday, but really, guys -- this is *really* dumb.

The "gay" book I just ordered still had its ranking. Is this being rolled in, or is it a done thing?

And yet on the other one I just looked up, no ranking - and yet it's a very popular book.

Here's a list of affected books (http://community.livejournal.com/meta_writer/11992.html). It seems like it's being applied pretty randomly. Some authors have only one book de-ranked, even though their others have an equal amount of LGBT content.

Heather Has Two Mommies is on this list! Yeah, I'm sure it's filled with "adult content", being a children's book and all. "Adult content" is clearly code for "GLBTQ books."

This is really mind-boggling shit. What really got me was the link showing what someone got when they searched amazon for homosexuality, and all the books that got listed were explaining how not to be gay or something like that.

Yes. Screenshot here (http://blog.seattlepi.com/amazon/library/homosexuality.jpg).

I already sent an email and signed this petition:

I'm posting the link in every post about this issue in case someone hasn't heard of it.
