Invite codes to Dreamwidth... I just learned that (shockingly) [livejournal.com profile] auburnnothenna is looking for one. Auburn has a name that, like Icarus, gets grabbed pretty quickly.

If anyone has a spare invite code and no one to give it to ([livejournal.com profile] lurksnomore was generous enough to give a code to [livejournal.com profile] roaringmice on my behalf) I have two friends, [livejournal.com profile] elizabeth_rice and the illustrious [livejournal.com profile] auburnnothenna, who are looking for one.

I must say, I am so pleased to see how eager people are to join Dreamwidth.

I have a spare, what address should I send it to?

Standby. Someone may have just given Auburn a DW account, but the invite hasn't shown up in her Gmail yet, and I'm hunting down [livejournal.com profile] elizabeth_rice's email.

...

Confirmed. Auburn has a DW invite.

[livejournal.com profile] elizabeth_rice's email is: lizzyphoenix at gmail

Thank you, that's very generous of you.

Thank you so much! I've received the invite and I really appreciate it. :)

By the way, thanks so much for MY invite :) I need to set the thing up, but at least my name is registered - it's a popular given name in Eastern Europe, so I was worried it would be gone pretty soon.

You're welcome! It 'twas a worthy cause. (It took me a couple days to get mine set up, and I've yet to set a style or get all of my entries uploaded.)

here's hoping the public beta makes it soon, so we can get invites. (amusingly reminiscent of the dr. who eps discussion earlier in the week, no?)

You have an OpenID account, yes? Because as I understand it, all the OpenID people are going to get invites once it goes to open beta.

I must say, I am so pleased to see how eager people are to join Dreamwidth.

I think the eagerness has more to do with not wanting to miss out on something than "oh yeah, another place to post stuff". For me, I'll join simply because a majority of the writers I like and some of the comms I'm on are going there and I'd kinda like to be in the loop. *g*

After that lackluster paragraph, I do hope to get a code if ya'll have one to spare?

Off to bed, maybe I can sleep this damn cold out.

Yes. I will. Though I only had one code and give it to a poverty-stricken friend.

Be sure to create an OpenID account if you haven't already. My understanding is that all the existing OpenID accounts will be sent an invite code when the open beta begins at the end of the month.

*sigh* I am on search for a code, too. But no one was able to provide one. Maybe someone here has got a spare one? I'am willing to beg...

I feel like I'm starting an orphanage for abandoned fic writers. :D

I can try, but no promises.

I think we're all going to get more invite codes come April 30th. In the meantime, set up a OpenID account there. I believe the OpenID people will be given invite codes once the beta testing ends this month.

Thanks for the help. I did that with the OpenID for now :)

I've never been able to set up an OpenID account there, personally. No matter which OpenID of mine I use, I get the same error.

Oh wait, no, it just worked. But only on my defunct food journal. Well, that's a start?

That's weird. I wonder why it wasn't working....

Sounds like a beta bug.

I have an openID account, but I DON'T WANNA WAIT. Largely because I am entitled.

It's only two weeks. That's not too bad. And your LJ name isn't likely to be grabbed by someone else.

I second the question. I did, like a good internet user, google the term, but found mostly mentions of it without a definition. Sort of a writers club?

It's a fork in LJ code. Which translates to: several former LJ people (who are also in fandom, [livejournal.com profile] synedochic and others) got together and said, "What if we could fix the problems with LJ? Not just clone it, but do it right?"

They made changes to the code, are using a slow growth model and paid accounts to pay for it, and have very fandom-friendly policies.

There are posts about it somewhere around here but it'll have to wait. I have class shortly and I'm scrambling to get my homework done.

Okay, thanks plenty for the info so far! I'm a bit less ignorant now.

so the goal is to improve livejournal without being part of the programming crew any more. But if they are former LJ people, how can they change the code? Or is this going to be a new and improved LJ?

From: [identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com
It's going to be here: http://www.dreamwidth.org

They can change the code because LJ freely provides its code for anyone to copy (change, add to, etc.).

In theory it is going to be a new and improved LJ.

You're welcome. I felt bad that I didn't have dozens of invite codes to dole out. We're told invite codes will become abundant in two weeks.
